2024 was a whirlwind for the Irish Coast Guard as they jumped into action over 2554 times! Find out what kept them buzzing and how they made our seas safer!

The Irish Coast Guard has been on overdrive in 2024, responding to a staggering 2,554 incidents throughout the year. With 44 dedicated Coast Guard Units working around the clock, their expertise shone brightly as they mobilized on 1,154 separate occasions to provide critical assistance. From lifesaving search and rescue operations to maritime casualty responses and even air ambulance missions, the men and women of the Coast Guard have proven time and again that they're always ready to dive into action for those in need.

Among the highlights of the year was the debut of the first two brand new AW189 helicopters based out of Shannon. These flying machines are game-changers for the Coast Guard, assisting in emergency responses where time is of the essence. As these helicopters take to the skies, four more are expected to join the fleet, enhancing the Coast Guard's capacity to respond swiftly to incidents on our treacherous waters. Whether it's bringing back a wayward angler or assisting in pollution preparedness missions, these helicopters give a whole new meaning to aerial agility!

In the past 12 months, the Coast Guard coordinated critical services that directly contributed to the safety and well-being of 537 individuals. The sheer scale of their operations ranged from rescuing lost sailors to attending to emergency evacuations, proving that there’s never a dull moment in their line of work.
