Over 72,000 students are riding the rollercoaster of Junior Cert results today – joy, pride, and a few surprises are in the mix! 🎉
Today marks a significant moment for over 72,000 eager pupils across Ireland, as they finally receive their Junior Certificate results. Schools accessed the results from an online portal at 9 am, sending waves of excitement (and possibly anxiety) through hallways nationwide. The State Examinations Commission (SEC) shared that while the number of students receiving ‘distinction’ marks has slightly dropped across many subjects, there’s still ample reason to celebrate! The results show a three percent increase in students sitting the exams compared to last year, a fact that fuels the excitement surrounding this annual rite of passage.
In schools from Carlow to Knockbeg, the occasion was one marked by joyful screams and proud parents as students opened their results. Principal Michelle Jefford of Abbey Community College expressed her pride, stating, “We are extremely proud of all our students!” Celebrations erupted as delighted pupils shared their results, with many capturing the moments on camera for their social media feeds. However, as cheers erupted, it is important to remember that alongside the jubilations, some students were met with the sobering reality of grades that fell short of expectations, with 22 individual subjects on the line.
The ASTI President, Donal Cremin, took a moment to congratulate all the students, parents, and teachers involved in this transformative educational journey. As the results encompass a mix of emotions ranging from elation to disappointment, students are reminded they have options available should they wish to embark on a reassessment journey. After all, every cloud has a silver lining, and sometimes the winding paths lead to delightful surprises!
Interestingly, 2024 sees an increase in junior cert candidates, with the numbers up to 72,828 from the preceding year’s 70,727. The drop in distinction marks has been attributed to various factors, including shifts in educational approaches and exam styles. However, despite the hurdles, this year’s exam results still reflect the resilience and hard work of Irish students, showcasing not only academic achievements but also life skills learned along the way. Keep celebrating the achievements, and remember: grades do not define you; it’s the determination to keep striving that truly counts!
