Chelsea sack manager Graham Potter after six months in charge (The Guardian)

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager was appointed after Chelsea's owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, fired Thomas Tuchel last September. Potter ...

We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. “Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. Boehly and Eghbali said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. They are at risk of missing out on European qualification and decided that a change was necessary before they play Madrid. The decision came out of the blue. Chelsea had two centre-backs, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoît Badiashile, on the bench and two full-backs, Reece James and Marc Cucurella, in their back three. Potter was hired after the departure of Thomas Tuchel in September. But while Chelsea are in a challenging period after their change of ownership the poor results exposed Potter and drained the board’s patience. They play the first leg of their quarter-final away to Real Madrid next week. Chelsea have not paid the £50m that was left on Potter’s five-year contract but he is understood to be due significant compensation. Chelsea have drawn up a shortlist of candidates, including Mauricio Pochettino, and would like someone in place before pre-season. Chelsea have installed Bruno Saltor, who was part of Potter’s backroom staff, as interim head coach and want to think carefully before making their next move.

Graham Potter out as Chelsea boss after just seven months (ESPN)

Graham Potter is out as Chelsea following a disappointing tenure that has seen the club slip to 11th place in the Premier League.

"Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. That includes breaking the British transfer record to sign midfielder He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome. Potter was told of the news in face-to-face talks at the club's Cobham training base on Sunday and sources have said that a compromise was reached over his payoff, meaning he will receive less than the full value of his contract in severance terms. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead. "We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person.

Chelsea sack head coach Graham Potter after Aston Villa defeat (BreakingNews.ie)

The 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge drew angry calls from home supporters for the manager to go.

A club statement read: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Senior players later admitted it was the worst pre-season they had experienced. There was a sincere belief amongst the owners that Potter could ultimately get the best out of the players and that he was a suitable long-term appointment. The club paid £21.5m in compensation to Brighton in order to release Potter and his backroom staff, a record fee paid by an English club for a manager and second only to the figure stumped up by Bayern Munich in 2021 for Julian Nagelsmann. Despite a willingness to give the 47-year-old the time he needed to get results out of the club’s expensively-assembled recruits, it was felt that patience ultimately could no longer be justified and the club have acted in order to give the team the best chance of finishing the season strongly. “In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter-final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid.

Chelsea might have new owners but once again it's the manager ... (The Irish Sun)

The first manager appointed by Chelsea's new ownership with a supposed new vision has been sacked after less than six months. Graham Potter was sacked by ...

Results were important but not the be-all and end-all. The Yankee hedge-fund schemers are now more than £5billion and one manager down and sit 11th in the Premier League with a massive squad of players who are no better now than when Potter arrived. It probably relates to both. The entire squad left for home none the wiser and were under the impression that Potter was still the man for the job in the eyes of Boehly and Eghbali and would be in charge for tomorrow’s game against Liverpool. Long-term contracts for players, a manager with the confidence of job security, a club on a steady treadmill to triumph. The usual demand for a major trophy every season, the intense pressure of constantly sleeping with a suitcase by your bed in readiness for the axe was a thing of the past.

No magic, only hundreds of millions spent ... Why Chelsea waited ... (Independent.ie)

There was, of course, one predictable line that summed up one of the main problems for Graham Potter amid a story that many football figures considered ...

They were willing to invest in Potter and saw him as enjoying the same kind of development to a world-class level that they believe will happen with so many young signings. From the start, it was impossible not to feel that Potter could have done with a job at a club in between Brighton and Chelsea. The insistence is that it will be an “exhaustive search”, and this decision has not been informed by having a replacement lined up. The unprecedented level of turnover at Chelsea means this isn’t all about Potter, but it was mainly about him. All of the appeals to emotional intelligence and what was genuinely good technical coaching that players enjoyed couldn’t overcome key realities of football. Many of the players, of course, had names for the manager based on his wizard namesake, and there were repeated references to Quidditch.
