Starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, the film doesn't take itself seriously. Its biggest strength is its absolute refusal to.

This is where the film takes on the nature of a thriller, complete with a high-speed chase sequence through the streets of Paris that sees Nick, in kinky handcuffs lined with pink fur, beat up kidnappers. Four years later, Nick and Audrey are trying to make it as private investigators in New York, but business isn’t exactly booming. The two end up solving a murder while on vacation.

Murder Mystery 2 Review: Another Mediocre Netflix Original From ... (Fandomwire)

Over the years, "Netflix Movie" has become sort of a genre unto itself. And that's not often the most flattering label. It can mean a movie is generic,

The ending is a letdown as well. I was never expecting this movie to be incredibly deep or nuanced, but each scene ends up coming off as simply the beginning of an idea, and nothing more. It takes too long to get to the meat of the story, and then has to rush through everything else. And from there, it jumps from one scene to the next so quickly, that nothing has time to settle with the audience. The cast gets nearly all the credit. The Spitzes are on the case, and of course there is no shortage of suspects. But a reprieve arrives out of the blue. But the jokes are good enough and will at least keep you laughing and entertained throughout its lightning fast 90 minute runtime. The Maharajah is a rich, widely known businessman. Their friend Vikram, the Maharajah they met in the first movie, is getting married, and invites them to attend an all-expense paid trip to the event, taking place on his new private island. After their tumultuous vacation in the first movie, the two quit their jobs (Nick an NYPD officer and Audrey a hairdresser) to go full-time into private eye work. It can mean a movie is generic, average, looks low-budget, is a good movie to have on while you’re doing something else because you don’t have to pay too close attention.

Adam Sandler's Murder Mystery 2 Suffers the Same Fate as Netflix ... (MovieWeb)

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston's sequel Murder Mystery 2 has been hit with free falling reviews just like the original movie.

While it was almost to be expected, the film could have done something new to try and beat the 44% rating of Murder Mystery but instead is called out by many as just another rehash of the same old story, with the same old Adam Sandler – at least the comedy side of him. For those who are looking for something that is a bit less run-of-the-mill, then Murder Mystery 2 seems likely to end up being a disappointment. Murder Mystery 2 certainly tries to outdo its predecessor with more locations, bigger set pieces, and plenty of stunts. The film launched on Netflix to pretty much the same lackluster reaction that the original movie received in 2019, with both audience and critics' scores on [Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/murder_mystery_2) freefalling toward sub-50% territory. Uh, he is so funny. He is a huge mensch.

Movie Review: Sandler, Aniston reteam in 'Murder Mystery 2' - News ... (Khaleej Times)

You would have a hard time defending the limp plotting, the bland action-adventure set pieces or the Agatha Christie-light whodunit twists of the first Mur.

All of this may lend some scale to Murder Mystery 2 but it's no help to the comedy. And this one, in which Jeremy Garelick (writer of The Hangover) takes over directing with James Vanderbilt returning to write the screenplay, starts out like a new season to a TV series, with a narrated recap of what the Spitzes have been up to since the last film. But like those films, everything in Murder Mystery and Murder Mystery 2 is secondary, and distantly so, to the comic and sweet rapport between the Spitzes, a bickering but lovingly connected married couple.
