Perhaps this is the bottom now, perhaps the only way is up for Donegal. The flicker never became a flame. Lacey – 2012 Footballer of the Year – has quit as head of the Academy while across the border, Rory Gallagher, Donegal assistant manager 11 years ago, currently has Derry humming. Donegal are bottom of Division One, with just one win from their six opening league games, and are poised to fall through the relegation trapdoor. He was only appointed on October 24th, following a clunky and protracted process. It started out with tears and it ended that way too.

More questions for Donegal GAA after a nightmare end to Paddy ... (Independent.ie)

Five months and six league matches is all it took for Paddy Carr's dream job to unravel into what must have felt like a nightmare over the last few days.

It proved the ultimate false dawn: consecutive eight-point defeats to Tyrone and Monaghan, the brief respite of a battling draw with Galway, then another sobering loss to Armagh. In terms of body blows to a dressing-room, it doesn’t get any worse than losing Michael Murphy to retirement. But whereas it would be entirely wrong to say Carr’s Donegal misadventure was doomed from the outset, his appointment raised eyebrows: his previous inter-county stint, with Louth, had ended in 2003. presumably they’d prefer if this wasn’t taking place against the backdrop of a managerial mess. but the job had fallen out of love with him. But both issues raise questions about the leadership of Donegal GAA.
