This is one of our favourite St Patrick's Day Parade moments: a group of guards lifting Jason Sherlock into the NYC parade.

I've been coming to the parade for a long time, and I've never seen that. Eventually a group of guards arrive on the scene who are so smitten by the sight of Jayo at the parade that they lifted Sherlock over the barrier and into the parade. It's a huge event for the Irish in America, and this year, a large numbers of guards travelled to New York to march, as they do every year.

Former Dublin football star Jason Sherlock got more than he bargained when he attended the annual New York St Patrick's Day parade on Friday.

'I’m an innocent man!,' the 47-year-old quipped afterwards. 'Our members are never off duty!,' the Garda wrote on Twitter. Ex-football star Sherlock was there to soak up the festivities but he quickly ended up a part of the parade itself thanks to a chance run in with some Garda.
