Hull City 1-3 Burnley: Nathan Tella hat-trick steers runaway Championship leaders to victory (Sky Sports)

Hull City vs Burnley. Sky Bet Championship. 7:45pm, Wednesday 15th March 2023. MKM StadiumAttendance: ...

We dominated the first 15 minutes in the second half, but it was gutting to give away the goals the way that we did. The more games, the more lessons we learn. Can we continue that and keep improving the club? But we gave away some soft goals and against the best teams, you have to be 10 out of 10 in both boxes and we didn't do that. For no apparent reason, Hull messed around with the ball at the back before substitute Jacob Greaves sluggishly misplaced a square pass across the face of goal. They are one of the best teams I've seen at this level in the last 10 years, if not the best.

The forward played it back to Ebiowei who tried to curl one into the far corner, but his effort went wide. Fellow substitute Greg Docherty then saw his effort from range held by Muric. The on-loan winger tried his luck again, this time from range as he received the ball directly from Muric. On the 59th-minute, Burnley had a second. Rosenior made a switch at half-time, bringing on Óscar Estupiñán for Pelkas, and the Columbian forward almost made an immediate impact. Head Coach Liam Rosenior made three changes to his starting XI to the one that faced Coventry City last time out.

Burnley player ratings vs Hull City as Nathan Tella lands another ... (Burnley Express)

Nathan Tella's second hat-trick of the season pushed the Clarets another step closer to the Championship title.

The Southampton star is in the form of his life having scored five times in his last two appearances to take his tally to 19 in all competitions. Pressed the life out of Hull City’s back line, full of energy from the first minute until his last, and showed Premier League class with his versatility, movement on and off the ball, and his impressive array of finishes. In and out of the game at the MKM Stadium. Telegraphed a number of passes out from the back to give the away side an advantage in transition and his cross for Nathan Tella’s second goal was impeccable. A full-blooded challenge on Allahyar in the first half, when getting across to cover Hjalmar Ekdal and prevent a counter, set the tone, and he got better and better with each and every contribution, whether off the ball or in possession. Challenged defensively by Callum Elder and Allahyar over on that side, with both supplying dangerous crosses into the penalty area, but got around the back to cover his centre-halves well when needed, and got forward in support of Vitinho and Nathan Tella.
