Cheltenham Festival day 1 full results on historic day for Rachael ... (Irish Mirror)

Day one was a memorable one for Irish horses, trainers and jockeys, in particularly Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore.

Runners are on their way to post for the penulitmate race. Honeysuckle and Love Envoi jumped the last upsides but Honeysuckle was not to be denied. Once O'Sullivan got a hold of him at the back of the last he had a very willing partner and they powered up the hill to win in a thrilling finish. That left the race in the lap of Chemical Energy who took the lead. He jumped the last a few lengths down but stayed in strongly to win cosy at the line. Jazzy Matty travelled well into the straight but was headed by the Willie Mullins trained Risk Belle jumping the last. El Fabiolo got the dream run up the rail turning in and was not to bet in the Arkle. Corach Rambler got back to winnings ways, winning back-to-back renewals of the Ultima. After Mahler Mission departed at the second last, Mullins was left with Chemical Energy to catch. Without doubt the highlight of the day was Honeysuckle going out in style winning the Mares' Hurdle with her partner Rachael Blackmore. Constitution Hill gave odds on backers very little moments of doubt throughout the race and ran out an impressive winner. Proceedings got underway with the Barry Connell trained runner Marine National sparkling in the Supreme giving Michael O'Sullivan his first Festival winner and he did not have to wait long to get his second the board.

The writing was on the wall along way from home as Energumene jumped his way to the front three out and never came out of fourth gear. The final race on the card went the way of the John Kiely trained runner, A Dream To Share. He travelled strongly through the race and once he hit the front the only danger was the fences ahead of him. Once he got safely over that fence there was little doubt in the result. The second last of the day is the Grand Annual Handicap Chase. A superb round of jumping put his rivals to the sword early in the race and he had just enough reserved in tank to hold on. Galvin went on to finish second with Franco De Port a distant third. Thyme White looked like he was going to play a big part in the finish before coming down two out. The races complexion changed at the second last as Thyme White came down and Dinoblue made a terrible mistake, that being said they would have had a big task on their plate to beat the mare. Take a look at the Energumene travelled strongly throughout and besides a slight scare at the third last, favourite backers had very little to worry about. Racing got underway with the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.

Cheltenham Festival 2023 LIVE: Ladies Day race updates, results ... (Daily Mail)

It's the only race in the Cheltenham Festival to not run on the main Cheltenham racecourse. Hello and welcome to Sportsmail's live blog for day two of the Cheltenham Festival. The Queen Mother Champion Chase is regarded as the most prestigious two-mile chase in Britain and Ireland. He disappointed in the Savills Chase but the prospect of better ground on the X-Country course should suit. I was impressed with him and he looks a value bet in the Brown Advisory contest. This season’s Paul Nicholls-trained winner Hermes Alle n looks well up to that standard and he can prove that in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. It was a performance that told you this six-year-old gelding had the talent to win at the biggest festival of all. Last season, Sir Gerhard was an impressive winner of the Ballymore and he made a winning debut over fences. It was great to finally get a Champion Chase last year and I think in the Clarence House he just needed the run over those different style of fences. This is my first ride at the Festival and it's all a bit surreal.' It is a teaming up of the generations. The ground then was good to soft in places and with rain expected every day between now and Friday.

Cheltenham Festival 2023: Energumene wins Champion Chase on ... (The Guardian)

Wednesday's feature event is the Champion Chase but there are another six races on the Festival's second day. Get live updates with Tony Paley.

Jazzy Matty, in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, is the only winner at double-figure odds so far, and the Coral Cup (2.50) and perhaps the Grand Annual (4.50) probably offer the layers the best chance for an upset today. Picks for the five races on ITV today are There is even a little bit of football rivalry thrown in ahead of the M23 Derby at the Amex Stadium tonight, as Energumene is owned by the Brighton chairman, Tony Bloom, while Editeur Du Gite runs in the red and blue colours of Steve Preston, a lifelong Crystal Palace fan. The feature event, in fact, is the only race on the second afternoon at Cheltenham in which British-trained runners are in the majority, with five out of seven. But they may not have many better chances than today, when Edwardstone, the narrow market leader in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, is likely to be the only British-trained favourite on the card and Ireland will supply around 60% of the runners. back in 2004 when Cheltenham also clashed with that prime Westminster event it caused quite a bit of controversy … Neither horse’s form has reached the level of Gerri Colombe’s, however, and nor do they look quite so likely to improve for this extended three-mile trip. An unbeaten favourite at odds-against could well prove irresistible for many punters here, as Gerri Colombe, who is seven-from-seven under Rules, steps up to the three-mile trip which his latest win in the Grade One Scilly Isles Chase suggests he is screaming for. Well that was interesting in the light of Paul Nicholls’ comments before the first race. There has also been a fairly even split between British- and Irish-trained winners, which makes it even more difficult to narrow things down, with five apiece over the last 10 years, although Ireland have had 98 runners in that time against the home team’s 159. With all due respect to the outsiders of the seven-strong field, it looks very much like a three-horse race for the two-mile chasers’ championship event, and thus a repeat of the Clarence House Chase in January, which switched to Cheltenham after being frozen off at its traditional home at Ascot. It also teed up the magnificent Tiger Roll for his Grand National wins in 2018 and 2019, and almost provided him with the perfect send-off when he was touched off by his stable companion, Delta Work, 12 months ago.
