Cheltenham Festival 2023: Day Two race card, top tips from the ... (Independent.ie)

The Ballymore Novices' Hurdle will start the second day of the Cheltenham Festival. Eight of the last nine winners were Irish trained.

In 1974, the horse that he owned, Attivo, won the Triumph Hurdle. A Dream to Share goes in the Champion Bumper. People said that, listening to his commentary that day, you'd never know that he was the owner. Tiger Roll enjoyed the spin in the Cross Country Chase. The experts predict that Edwardstone and Editeur Du Gite will be in the closing credits. He had a heart condition and had to be pulled up in previous races. Last March, he entered seven runners in the race. Ireland had five of the last seven winners of the Coral Cup. It's another afternoon to put the kettle on. It's where his name first began to flicker in the Cheltenham lights. Gordon Elliott hit the jackpot in the Coral Cup last year when Commander of Fleet won at 50/1. Many winners of this race have gone on to win the Gold Cup.

He's one of the best we've ever seen but Honeysuckle is one of the toughest we've ever seen. It was one of the best days of racing you could imagine.

Jurgen Klopp says his Liverpool side are ‘complete outsiders’ at the Bernabeu tonight. Willie Mullins is targeting back-to-back wins in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle, with his Impaire Et Passe heading the betting. But trainer John ‘Shark’ Hanlon has confirmed having seen Tuesday’s results, he has every intention of running his stable star, unless the weather forecast proves horribly wrong. Changes to the league setup this year mean there are a minimum of seven games for teams in each division with the top four in each at the end of the round robin stages progressing to a league semi-final.

A racecourse spokesperson said: “Sadly Malinello sustained an injury in the final race of the day. It was a fairytale start for Rachael Blackmore on day one thanks to her victory with Honeysuckle in the Mares' Hurdle. Paul Townend is once again booked in for some big rides today, taking the saddle of both Sir Gerhard and Energumene. Here is a run through of the racecard. It wasn’t the strongest of races. He has been impressive at home and his win at Punchestown was very good in terms of the manner of how he won. One of the most prestigious National Hunt Meetings of the calendar is not to be missed…and we’ve got a bumper week of amazing content and great reader offers. He's a classy horse, and he deserves to take his chance in a race like this.” That was then followed by a [fairytale swansong for Honeysuckle](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/horse-racing/cheltenham-festival-honeysuckle-rachael-blackmore-29458121) and Rachael Blackmore in the Mares' Hurdle. Celebrate the biggest racing week of the year- the Cheltenham Festival. There might not be an obligation to be dressed up in your finest, but thanks to long-time tradition it’s a chance to don your very best outfits at one of the finest racecourses around. It looks to be a perfectly matched battle between Britain and Ireland.

Cheltenham Festival day 2 live race card, tips, results and more (Irish Mirror)

The writing was on the wall along way from home as Energumene jumped his way to the front three out and never came out of fourth gear. The final race on the card went the way of the John Kiely trained runner, A Dream To Share. He travelled strongly through the race and once he hit the front the only danger was the fences ahead of him. Once he got safely over that fence there was little doubt in the result. The second last of the day is the Grand Annual Handicap Chase. A superb round of jumping put his rivals to the sword early in the race and he had just enough reserved in tank to hold on. Galvin went on to finish second with Franco De Port a distant third. Thyme White looked like he was going to play a big part in the finish before coming down two out. The races complexion changed at the second last as Thyme White came down and Dinoblue made a terrible mistake, that being said they would have had a big task on their plate to beat the mare. Take a look at the Energumene travelled strongly throughout and besides a slight scare at the third last, favourite backers had very little to worry about. Racing got underway with the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.

Westport Cove all set for Cheltenham (Mayo News)

RACING Michael Gallagher talks to Westport businessman Cathal Hughes about having a runner at the Festival this week.

“They’re really decent people and their success speaks for itself. We’re mad into sport and to have a horse in Cheltenham is great. We had other good horses, ‘Westport Lady’ and ‘Frere Tuck’ but freak injuries ended their careers, so we’re taking nothing for granted,” Cathal continued. It’s great to have got there and our wish is he runs a good race and comes back safe and sound. Cheltenham is where it’s at. OFF TO A FLYER Cathal Hughes and his daughter Emma are pictured at Fairyhouse back in January with jockey Patrick Mullins and a member of staff from the Willie Mullins yard after Westport Cove won the bumper on the card in fine style.

Cheltenham Festival: Lydia Hislop's top tips for Wednesday (Racing TV)

Award-winning broadcaster and Road To Cheltenham presenter Lydia Hislop shares her best bets for day two of the Cheltenham Festival.

Yet it was his undoing in January when Edwardstone’s presence on his immediate right at the final fence deprived him the space he needs and forced a chance-ending error. I’d love the highly progressive Final Orders to triumph, as he’s been a revelation over fences this season and seeks his sixth straight win. Delta Work ran creditably here in December but will be favoured at level weights reopposing Back On The Lash and Deisa Aba here. He lacks the element of surprise this time, but the defection of Gentleman De Mee due to an infection removes one rival for the pace – albeit recent quick-smart Newbury winner and last year’s runner-up Funambule Sivola and weak-finishing Captain Guinness may be up for it. On the more testing, less tightly left-handed New Course in January, Niall Houlihan delivered an exquisite ride on Editeur Du Gite to take the notable scalps of EDWARDSTONE and Energumene. But that was a weird race in which his rivals – including Galia Des Liteaux – made a catalogue of errors, the runner-up went lame and the time was glacial. This season, he has shaped well in all three starts, especially last time out in the Relkeel. The first two also go out to their right and the last-named wildly left. [Cheltenham](/horses/cheltenham) presenter Lydia Hislop shares her best bets for day two of the Cheltenham Festival. It’s interesting to note this will be his first time left-handed over obstacles, so that is at least an unknown. Instead, he and Hermes Allen rate the main dangers to my selection. By contrast, I’m not worried about the staying capabilities of IMPAIRE ET PASSE, this column’s longstanding selection, even though he is yet to race over this far.

How To Bet £20 at the Cheltenham Festival on Thursday (Racing TV)

Teahupoo has shown much improved form since stepping up in trip this season and looks the one to be on in the Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham on ...

[at 100-1 for the Grand National](https://www.racingtv.com/grand-national/news/randox-grand-national-a-pair-of-100-1-chances-worth-second-look) in a column last month and a good run should him book his place in the Aintree line-up. The grey wouldn’t have been on many radars for this after his first six, when rated 117, runs but he looked a different horse when bolting up at Chepstow last time, when equipped with first-time headgear having had a second wind op. Thanksforthehelp has been hit with an 11lb rise but that wouldn’t have stopped him last time and, provided he doesn’t recoil, gives Pipe obvious claims of winning the race for a third time since 2010. The bounce factor is a niggle, but he's had time to refresh his batteries. I’m not sure the new qualifying rules for the race have helped in terms of quality because the bottom-rated runner has sneaked in off a mark of 121. Haut En Coleurs would probably also be in the race, too, had been entered in the first place (surely an oversight) and if he were not in the same ownership. Teahupoo should have his favoured conditions again on Thursday and his preparation seems to have been a lot smoother than either Flooring Porter, seeking a third successive win in the race, or Blazing Khal. I wouldn’t get too hung up on the fact that he failed to fire at Cheltenham 12 months because the combination of ground/trip found him out, and some of Elliott’s runners misfired at the meeting. The Ryanair Chase shares top billing on Thursday, with two-time Festival winner Shishkin deservedly a hot favourite after his imperious win at Ascot last month. I’m not sure any of his five rivals were at their best but he was carrying a 9lb penalty and could do no more than saunter home by 15 lengths. However, it’s been a different story up in trip back on deeper ground this term. The top seven rated runners in the line-up are separated by just 7lb but it’s Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old, a general 4-1, who stands out from the crowd.
