Union Bears boycott Rangers vs Raith Rovers Scottish Cup clash (Glasgow Times)

The fans group has vacated their section at Ibrox in what is believed to be a protest against the club.

"He did really well in the last two games and we've got John to come in today. Commentator Rory Hamilton said: "There is the rather empty area where the Union Bears usually bit. It is understood that this is in protest against the removal of banners planned for use at the Scottish Cup game. The fans group has vacated their section at Ibrox in what is believed to be a protest against the club.

Raith Rovers gave a decent account of themselves for an hour against a full-strength Rangers before Ryan Nolan's own goal all but killed the game.

Tavenier shot blocked, again after a set-piece before Rovers again got into a promising position after some good play but Dylan Easton’s shot was weak – like in the first half, Rangers scored almost immediately after when Nolan turned the ball into his own net. For all their good defending they were undone minutes before half-time through Goldson’s header – that came just after Rovers had got into a good position in the box but picked the wrong ball. Raith still have a cup final to look forward to at the end of the month but the focus for now turns to the Scottish Championship.

Rangers see off Raith Rovers in Scottish Cup quarter-finals (The Irish News)

The Championship side defended from the first whistle and nullified the Gers threat until the 42nd minute when defender Connor Goldson headed in.

In the 79th minute Antonio Colak and Ryan Kent made way for Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi but in the 87th minute it was fellow substitute Arfield who took a pass from Todd Cantwell to knock the ball past MacDonald. The visitors began to tire as the holders pinned them back although they came close when Aidan Connolly's cross from the left was missed by Goncalves at the back post. However, the breakthrough came just before the break when Goldson leapt at the back post to bullet in a header from Barisic's delivery.

But it was a slow game, there were a lot of niggly injuries, and I'm just glad we're through to the semi-final. We wanted to go further obviously. We still got into really good areas and I'm expecting us to do slightly better. But the way they played the game we had to see it out professionally and we did that in the end. "Although it was our third game in a week I'd like us to be a little bit sharper in and around the box. When the first goal goes in from a corner the game you hope it opens up a bit but it didn't, they stayed disciplined and stuck to their task so it made for a slow game.
