Ireland will be hoping to close the gap on leaders England as they prepare for a potential championship decider against the old enemy on St. Andrew Osborne gets the first try of the night following a penalty advantage. Gus McCarthy bundles over Ireland's third try of the night following a line out. The ball is released and he latches on to it and dives over for try number 4 which secures the bonus point. Devine breaks free through the loose Scottish defence and passes it to Gunne who crosses the line. Ireland are just utterly dominating Scotland and are scoring tries almost everytime they go forward. Scotland's Finlay Burgess is stretchered off following a lengthy injury delay. James McNabney is the latest green jersey to cross the try line. Townsend then reduces it to 40 with the conversion. Danny Sheahan adds his name to a lengthy list of Ireland try scorers this evening. You'd fancy Ireland to reach 100 points if this match was to go on any further. Another try, this time from Fiachna Barrett followed before a third from Gus McCarthy meant Ireland lead by 21 points to nil before the 17 minute mark.

U20 Six Nations: Ireland thrash Scotland to move one step closer to ... (The Irish Times)

Ireland will compete for a second successive Under-20 Six Nations Championship Grand Slam when they host England at a sold-out Musgrave Park on Sunday week (5.0) ...

Even allowing for the wholesale changes, Ireland’s post interval performance was ragged and a little undisciplined which will provide a focal point in training next week: coaches do like works-on. A word too for the two starting props, Hadden and Barrett, both of whom excelled as did Conor O’Tighearnaigh and captain Gus McCarthy who were also replaced. Prendergast converted and at 42-0 after just 35-minutes it was a tough watch for the home supporters. First they eviscerated the Scottish scrum on a home put-in and from the tap penalty Barrett’s reverse pass allowed Quinn to power through a couple of weak tackles. The conversion was the Irish outhalf’s last act, signing off on a brilliant display that properly represented his prodigious talent. Irish captain Gus McCarthy was next to cross the Scottish line, tail gunner on a maul that powered to within inches of the home side’s line.

Ireland's U-20s are on the cusp of retaining their Six Nations crown following a devastating 75-point rout over Scotland in the penultimate round.

Quinn added his second try of the night moments later, as Leinster out-half Prendergast continued his 100pc kicking streak. On 15 minutes, Ireland’s lineout worked to perfection as captain McCarthy powered over from close range. Ireland made the perfect start as two championship debutantes ran over inside the opening seven minutes as Ireland got off to a perfect start.

True, there was the odd speculative pass, but the team cohesion was still obvious as they ran Scotland ragged. The men in green took charge in the opening minutes and never let go in a performance that has to give them plenty of confidence ahead of next week’s England showdown. Right from the start they were sharper, quicker and much more accurate than their opponents.
