Condon then credits her agent for initially introducing her to Byrne at the premiere, leading to chats with him, Jeremy Irons, and John Malkovich "about this and that... "After 9.32pm stamps I finally got my reply, it was from his agent saying he was out of the country and unable to respond to my request. it must have taught her a lot and it certainly taught us a lot working with her." Leo", by which she of course means Leonardo DiCaprio. Oscars?" Not letting this opportunity slip through my fingers I began writing to her every day..." you know typical Hollywood stuff!!!" She writes with wit and charm about her teen crush on Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in the movie, about the thrill of getting her hair and make-up done and donning her "new outfit" for the premiere - and about her nerves and how she was "bursting to go to the loo" by the time she hit the red carpet.

Kerry Condon Recalls the Time She Shut Down a 'Rome' Nude Scene: 'I Wasn't a Fool' · What's your worst audition horror story? · What advice would you give your ...

And for her as an actress to have the balls and to swallow her own ego to take on that role made me go, Oh, my God, if you could just stop being vain, you could be an amazing actress. And so I don’t really think I would give my 19-year-old self advice, because part of me looks back and goes, I wasn’t a fool. I think it was around the time he was doing “Alexander.” I can’t blame him for keeping me waiting; all I know is I was in a hotel waiting around for hours and hours—and some of the other people who were waiting were getting drunk in the bar. I was like, “What do you mean?” and he was like, “You’re supposed to have something prepared.” And I swear to God all I could think of—because I had just played Ophelia in [the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2001 production of] “Hamlet”—was [her] “Oh, woe is me” [monologue]. And she comes down the stairs thinking she looks really pretty, and he goes under his breath, “Oh, Jesus,” when he sees her. I don’t have something that I’d love to play. But if I was to give my younger self advice, as a person, I’d just say, “Don’t be so boy crazy.” When you make mistakes and learn the hard way, you don’t really repeat them. So I’m on a racehorse, on a track with a camera, with Michael Mann. And my lovely co-star Allen Leach was like, “Whatever Kerry wants.” I remember having to wait upstairs while they talked to the producers in America, and I was like, “Call them! I hate this question, because nobody gave me advice, and I had to learn the hard way! Then I go into the audition and he says, “So what have you prepared?” No one told me I had to prepare anything; I just thought we were going to be chatting! I remember there was a [nude] scene in “Rome,” and I thought, No, I’m not doing this.

JJ Abrams, Kerry Condon Toast Ireland's Big Year at Oscar Wilde ... (Hollywood Reporter)

Kerry Condon, Jessie Buckley, Eve Hewson and 'The Quiet Girl' were all recognized at the Thursday night event, hosted by the US-Ireland Alliance.

Thank God we’re not all tall, or we’d all be models and people would really, really fucking hate us.” And she praised her mom for “loving me so much that I feel like I can fly.” It’s the perfect blend for an artist, and I wouldn’t be here today without it.” “We can’t tell you how happy it has made us to prove that argument wrong.” Created by the US-Ireland Alliance, the Oscar Wilde Awards celebrate the work of those from Ireland — and some who are not — who contribute to the movies, television and music. Hewson, the Bad Sisters actress coming off a performance in John Carney’s Sundance entry, was introduced by Charlie Hunnam. Buckley confessed that she finds awards shows “a bit bewildering. … Her wild laughter kept us alive through the hardest day.” [Oscar Wilde Awards](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/oscar-wilde-awards/), held Thursday night — before the rain arrived — at Bad Robot in Santa Monica. Abrams](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/jj-abrams/) joked, in a year when 25 percent of the Academy Award acting nominations are held by Irish actors. I usually get kind of squashed like some kind of sausage into a dress and on the way there I think, ‘I can’t wait to get home and like, have chips and tequila and put my pajamas on.’ But I thought this being Irish awards it might be a bit different, like being at a wake.” The Oscar Wilde honorees this year were Irish actresses Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jessie Buckley (Women Talking), Eve Hewson (Flora and Son) and An Cailίn Ciúin (The Quiet Girl), the first Irish language film nominated for an Academy Award. Buckley was brought to the podium by her Women Talking writer-director Sarah Polley (Oscar nominated for adapted screenplay), who said that in a movie “when there were nine, sometimes 12 characters in the same room, I would often shoot Jessie last after we’d run the scene upward of 150 times over the course of three days,” as “while Jessie was always brilliant on the first take, she’s really the only actor I’ve ever seen still able to genuinely surprise herself and everyone else on take 150.

Abrams told Variety on the green carpet adding, “And it’s always fun to have so many nominees, makes it that much more fun, because it’s just nice to see all this work.”
