Shamrock Rovers 4-4 Cork City: Thriller in Tallaght as Champions ... (Irish Mirror)

But it could have been even worse for the Hoops, who were two-down with six minutes of normal time remaining, before super subs Simon Power and Sean Hoare ...

The low cross was inviting, but it still required a skillful near-post finish by Keating to lift the ball over Mannus. Dylan Watts was the closest to scoring off Clarke’s hard work. When he fouled the Hoops wing-back once too often for referee Rob Harvey’s liking, Walker was booked. And Crowley slotted home his second of the night to silence the home crowd, when Cian Bargary’s cross evaded a couple of Rovers defenders and found him unmarked 10 yards from goal. He was agonisingly close on 21 minutes when his 20-yard curler smashed off the underside of the bar. Cleary’s arm went out, as if to invite Mannus to seize the initiative, but the keeper slipped as he put his foot through the ball on the edge of his area.

The impressive Keating played the ball out to Bargary and Rovers should have dealt with his cross in to Crowley but, once again, the Hoops’ defending was dismal and Crowley could not believe his luck as he sent home a left-foot shot from close range. Alan Mannus came out of his goal to make a clearance but the ball fell to Crowley who spotted him well off his line. City didn’t deal with Jack Byrne’s corner, ’keeper Jimmy Corcoran had to save twice but Rory Gaffney remained patient, took a calm touch in the box, found an opening and fired home into the roof of the net.

Cork City denied at the death by Rovers in eight-goal thriller (Irish Examiner)

A game that had everything – including a goal of the season contender from Darragh Crowley - ended in a point apiece for Cork City and Shamrock Rovers.

Far from that deflating City, they went straight back down the pitch to score with their next attack. Rory Gaffney, one of the four newcomers, displayed his clinical streak at the other end six minutes later. Daniel Krezic set the tone of an ambitious outlook by unleashing a seventh minute shot that Alan Mannus nervously fumbled, gathering at the second attempt. What was particularly insightful to Cork’s approach was also keeping faith with the flat back four. The impish midfielder was to the fore in creating the equaliser on 33 minutes that utterly altered the flow of the game. A game that had everything – including a goal of the season contender from Darragh Crowley and a worrying head injury to Aaron Bolger – ended in a point apiece for Cork City and Shamrock Rovers.

Shamrock Rovers pulled off the latest of comebacks to salvage a stunning 4-4 draw at home to Cork City.

The scoreboard was level for just four minutes, before Custovic restored the visitor’s lead. Gaffney opened the scoring just before the 15 minute mark. The 23-year-old had a lot to do from over 45 yards but showed incredible technique to clip a wondrous strike over the head of a scrambling Mannus and into the net,. And the Rebels went into half-time ahead, after Crowley struck a goal of the season contender to capitalise on a rare Mannus mistake. The 2022 Player of the Year showed immense determination to latch onto a Gary O’Neill rebound in the box, and launch the ball into the roof of the net. Darragh Crowley will be the one in the headlines after the game though, thanks to his goal of the season contender in the first-half. Mannus did his best to make it back to the goal in time to save the shot, but to no avail, sending Cork City scored a goal of the season contender against Shamrock Rovers on Monday night, in what was also likely one of the games of the season.

Shamrock Rovers 4 Cork City 4: Darragh Crowley's wondergoal ... (The Irish Sun)

FOOTBALL, bloody hell.Shamrock Rovers are still without a win this season — but it did not feel like that for the Hoops faithful leaving Tallaght la.

And Tallaght was silenced, apart from the few hundred visiting fans, with 20 minutes remaining when Crowley slotted home unmarked from a Bargary cross. A Hoops backlash was expected and they equalised on 54 minutes when Lee Grace took advantage of poor marking at a corner to head home Byrne’s centre. It took a huge amount of skill, as the goal was vacant as the ball arrived at his feet and the Hoops goalkeeper, sensing danger, sprinted back towards his line. And three minutes later, City hit the front with a stunner from Crowley, who took advantage of an Alan Mannus clearance to clip the ball into the momentarily unguarded net from 40 yards. But the loss to a nasty injury of ex-Hoop Aaron Bolger — who was carried off after a long delay moments after Simon Power scored Rovers’ third — meant ten minutes of injury time. Seán Hoare’s goal in the seventh minute of injury time, in a game they trailed by two goals with six minutes to go, felt like a victory.

Things went from bad to worse for Rovers when City scored a fourth after 70 minutes. Rovers started the stronger of the sides and deservedly opened the scoring after 13 minutes through Rory Gaffney. Substitutes Simon Power & Sean Hoare were the saviours for Rovers to earn the Hoops a point late on in Tallaght. Moments after Healy’s effort, City found the equaliser. Within four minutes of this, it was the visitors who took the lead, when Darragh Crowley scored from all but 40 yards after a loose clearance fell to the City academy graduate and his lobbed effort found the back of the Hoops net to give the Rebel Army the lead at half-time. Rovers opened the scoring through Rory Gaffney early on, before two-quick fire goals just before the break saw the visitors lead at half-time.

Shamrock Rovers need control to keep four-in-a-row hopes alive (The42)

Stephen Bradley's side are without a win four games with manner of goals conceded indicative of a wider issue.

Ruairi Keating, who pounced for their first, superbly plucked a long clearance out of the air to set up the attack. They lost two second balls in midfield, allowing Aaron Bolger enough time to thread a neat pass which led to a cross into the six-yard box for a simple finish. Currently, only the champions and UCD remain winless in the top flight. Already this term the goals against column has reached eight, more than one third of the entire tally previously. But the nature of the goals Rovers have conceded will be the biggest concern of all, a symptom of a wider issue. The Rovers boss suggested Lopes was the victim of a

Airtricity League round-up: Bohemians get back to winning ways against Drogheda; Dundalk and Sligo Rovers also record wins.

The Louth men were fortunate not to be further ahead at half-time but fought back to level three minutes after the restart when Rayhann Tulloch made it two goals in two matches following his loan move from West Brom. Darragh Leahy failed to deal with Cameron Ledwidge’s long punt forward and John Ross Wilson was on hand to take advantage by stealing in behind the Dundalk defence before rounding Nathan Shepperd to slot home. But with Akintunde growing more influential as the game wore on, Bohs got back on top. Looking for a positive response to Friday’s 5-0 humbling at Dundalk, the Saints instead failed to capitalise on the early sending-off of Rovers defender John Mahon, as the hosts claimed victory with goals from Reece Hutchinson and Fabrice Hartmann. The one-time Republic of Ireland cap rose highest to head in a 69th-minute winner against his old club to ensure he will wake up for his 32nd birthday on Tuesday with a smile on his face. And Bohemians were to stretch their lead when following a break down the right from the impressive Declan McDaid, Coote sold a clever dummy to set up Akintudne who beat the Drogheda goalkeeper with a low finish into the bottom corner. Kavanagh (McGonigle, 64). There was a long hold-up late on due to an injury sustained by Cork midfielder Aaron Bolger and with seven minutes of stoppage-time already played, Hoare’s looping header to the net secured a hard-earned point for the Hoops. Rovers equalised shortly after the resumption courtesy of Lee Grace’s finish from a Jack Byrne corner, but Cork swiftly restored their one-goal lead on 58 minutes with a low strike to the net by substitute Kevin Čustović off a set-piece move. Ronan Boyce and Brandon Kavanagh combined on the right for the latter to thread a delightful ball through for the run of McEneff. Healy looked set to gather but took his eye off the ball and fumbled it into the path of O’Neill who cut across and tapped into the net for the Fulham loanee’s first goal for the club. Content to sit on their lead and with UCD struggling to create anything going forward, the game descended into a lull until four minutes before the interval when McEneff reignited it with another superbly contrived and finished goal.
