URC's fabulous five Saffas shining in the African sun (SARugbymag)

With SA derbies on the Vodacom United Rugby Championship menu in round 15, here are five South Africans enjoying a breakout 2022-23 campaign.

Consistently producing game-breaking performances in the wide channels for the men from Durban, Kok shot out of the blocks at the start of the campaign with three tries that included a strike down the left touchline in an emphatic victory over Glasgow. He is just as potent under the high ball, famously high-pointing a cross-kick to crash over for a spectacular try against Scarlets in Llanelli. After a lengthy stint on the sidelines this season, the fit-again Emirates Lions bruiser returned to Vodacom URC action last week with a bang as The Pride bounced back to winning ways against Glasgow Warriors. A move to the Highveld from the Cell C Sharks has clicked with the feisty scrumhalf, who marked his first Vodacom URC start for the Emirates Lions with a try in the away win over Ospreys in round two. When fit and firing, the 23-year-old is a dynamic No 8 able to unlock defences as a key member of the Emirates Lions pack. The DHL Stormers’ teenage sensation has taken to Vodacom URC like a seasoned pro, bursting onto the scene this season as an exciting prospect at outside centre and wing.

Simon Thomas. WEEKEND PREVIEW – BTK URC ROUND 15. SCARLETS ON COOMBES COLLISION COURSE The Scarlets will have their hands full containing Ireland squad ...

So the warning is there to the Dragons this weekend. The goal is to be at 115kg consistently,” he said. Rugby really runs in the blood of the 24-year-old who will wear No 10 against the Ospreys on Saturday evening. A goal-kicking fly-half who can also operate in the centre, he’s a real threat when he takes the ball to the line. Once he clamps himself over the ball, he is so hard to move given his rock-solid body shape and a physicality that allows him to survive the clean-out. “We are in this to get as far down the track as we can. They have scored the most tries in the URC (67) and conceded the joint-fewest (29). “It’s up to Warren (Gatland) at the end of the day. “You have only got to look where they are sitting in the table really. He showed that by producing four clean breaks and beating five defenders in the rearranged game against the Emirates Lions in Johannesburg last weekend when he also chipped in with a try. I am looking forward to it as a coach and the players are looking forward to it. The boys are in a good space, but we realise the size of the challenge ahead of us this week.
