Asked about the cancelled May 20 fight, a spokesperson for the Department of Tourism and Sport told The Irish Sun: “The Department and the Ministers, recognising the special place that Katie occupies in the national consciousness, would be supportive of such a fight happening if a suitable date can be found that aligns with the fighters’ schedules and with the tourism demand cycle in order to meet the accommodation demand that would arise from such an event.” The Department said they are aware of reports that the 3Arena fight has been scrapped and notes speculation about the fight taking place later in the year. Earlier this week, the promoter said the injury postponement has opened the door for the fight to possibly be held in Croke Park in July.
