The Kildare native jetted into Dublin on Thursday night to launch the Dublin International Film Festival with his movie God's Creatures.

She said his notoriety is “a lot” to take it but added: “he’s doing pretty good”. “To know him is to love him and he is an adorable young man and so talented.” Paul Mescal has said he’s “very excited” to attend the Oscar’s next month.

This year's film festival will take place from February 23rd to March 4th, featuring a diversity of documentaries, shorts and in-person features.

Running until 4th March, with a diverse programme of in-person features, documentaries, shorts and special events, the festival also has a number of screenings available to watch online. "I must acknowledge the support of all our partners and especially venues who have helped us to bring the programme together," Humphreys continued. God’s Creatures directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer were also attendees, along with writer/producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly and screenwriter Shane Crowley.

On Friday March 3rd, a documentary on Traveller life called Mincéir will be screened, followed by a panel discussion, with both featuring Tralee man Martin Mahon. The festival will close on Saturday March 4th with a documentary called 406 Days, which tells the story of the picket by Debenhams workers for over a year straight over redundancy terms. There’s a strong Kerry presence at this year’s Dublin Film Festival, which kicks off today.

Asked whether she'd given Ireland's fastest-rising star any advice on how to handle his newfound celebrity she said, "He's doing pretty good. No better man for the job. He's very grounded. His fellow castmate, acting royal Emily Watson, was happy to talk about his stellar rise to the top, however, saying of the young actor "to know him is to love him". "Excited," he shouted over his shoulder, as agents shuffled him away from journalists who tried to ask him about his feelings ahead of the biggest night in film. The Maynooth man was happy to sign autographs and take selfies with fans who had shown up for the gala screening of his film— though he had few words for the journalists in attendance.

Sharing a little about his prep for the family’s big night at the Oscars, Paul Sr said they plan ‘to enjoy the experience as we did the Baftas which was surreal. ‘I was too shy to get pictures with famous people,’ he said with a laugh. He said: ‘It’s all been phenomenal – long may it continue.’
