Richard Dunne is familiar with the Ferguson family, having played with Evan's dad Barry and coached the young Brighton and Ireland striker.

“He got called up for one of the games and it was the first time I’d seen him play. “You might get an opportunity at a League Two team but why not share that knowledge back here? If there was an opportunity around I am certainly open minded to it. I haven’t decided yet, but I am certainly open-minded.” “I think the opportunity to be the first one to bring a team into the Champions League, or into the Europa League and get out of your group; that’s much more interesting to me than just coaching in England.” “If you start in the League of Ireland, I don’t think it’s then your dream to go and coach in League One. “So I’d rather be in the Premier League in Ireland than be in League Two in England, in terms of having the opportunity to go and manage in Europe and fight for league titles and all that sort of stuff. “With the League of Ireland, with the way the academy system is going, you are going to get a lot more talented players with potential and dreams and hopes of trying to improve. Everything is just getting better. “I was actually just speaking to a friend the other day about it, trying to work out where you want to be and what you want to do. “There has been a huge shift in the visibility of the League of Ireland and with the academies,” he said. “I remember talking to Vinny and Barry a while back, and Evan was on the bench for the first team in one of the Cup games,” said the former Ireland centre-half.

“He obviously has got a long, long way to go to do it, but sometimes you see centre-forwards and you think ‘he’s missing this, this and that’. “To see him then obviously move over, breakthrough and do what he’s done in the last couple of months is brilliant.
