Despite a try shortly after the break from Connacht winger Kilgallen, which should have put the game beyond doubt, Zebre battled back into the game with a sloppy period and poor defensive effort from Connacht in the third quarter of the game. Zebre scored a try against the run of play from winger Gesi but Connacht's domination continued with an opportunistic try from full-back O'Halloran to give his side the bonus point, and the province scored again with a well-worked blindside move finished by scrum-half Blade just before the break. The visitors got off to a strong start, with hooker Tierney-Martin securing the ball at the back of a lineout maul and steering over to give his side an early lead.

Connacht score nine tries but Zebre still give them a scare (RugbyPass)

Connacht survived a scare as they held off a second-half fightback by Zebre to emerge 57-34 winners from their URC clash in Parma.

Kilgallen broke two tackles to get the visitors off to a try-scoring start to the second half but Zebre hit back immediately through [Erich Cronje](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/erich-cronje/) as the match continued to produce tries at both ends. The Irish province appeared to be cruising to a routine victory as they led 38-13 when wing [Diarmuid Kilgallen](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/diarmuid-kilgallen/) went over in the 45th minute but Zebre burst into life, inspired by their fly-half [Tiff Eden](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/tiff-eden/) to plunder three rapid tries. Tierney-Martin claimed a second maul try with backs this time joining in as the Irish side again looked to their set-piece to make the breakthrough. Eden’s silky hands and movement then set Gesi up for his second and suddenly Zebre trailed just 38-34. [Adam Byrne](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/adam-byrne/) went over from close range before [Kieran Marmion](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/kieran-marmion/) and [Colm de Buitlear](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/colm-de-buitlear/) ran in tries at the death. Eden rifled over his second penalty and Zebre showed signs of endeavour as they broke across the halfway line, capitalising on the scrappy nature of the opening quarter.

Connacht overcome second-half scare to win 13-try thriller with Zebre (The42)

An early Dylan Tierney-Martin hat-trick felt like a distant memory as the dust settled on Connacht's 57-34 success.

Eden nailed another kick and, having led 38-13 early in the second half, Connacht looked up to see their gap was quickly down to four. Carty’s conversion, wide, was the final play, and Connacht will head for home both with maximum points and lots of questions. On 23 minutes, however, Connacht made their way back to the Zebre 5′ through back-to-back penalty infringements by their hosts. Zebre’s indiscipline would cost them again just three minutes later as Carty once more prodded Connacht to the precipice of the Zebre 5′. Eden brought the gap back to 11 with more than 20 minutes remaining. Connacht got down to business almost instantly, hooker Tierney-Martin scored their first of nine tries from a five-metre drive on the left-hand side.
