'Nothing left' - Jurgen Klopp sent clear Everton message by fans as ... (Liverpool Echo)

After another Premier League defeat last weekend, Liverpool will know all too well there is little margin for error in Monday evening's Merseyside derby.

Saturday offered another reminder – perhaps the starkest to date – of the challenges over recent weeks and months. Whether Monday’s visit of Everton, fresh from their impressive victory over Arsenal, is the ideal fixture at present is up for debate. If the players can’t get up for this match and sort their own dips in form against their rivals from the other side of Stanley Park, then there will be absolutely nothing left to say. It’s not great at the moment, there’s no escaping that, but it is another form of challenge. What also feels worth embracing is the considerable potential for improvement over the coming weeks. Much energy has been expended on trying to solve the Liverpool conundrum this year; explanations have ranged from a lack of investment to a lack of desire. The reintroduction of key personnel will reinvigorate the team and our performances. And no, it can’t be that if everything is the problem, nothing is, because clearly there’s something amiss. I don’t know what will fix the current run of form. Now is the time to stick together and start believing as we head towards a pivotal Merseyside derby fixture. Let's get the ground bouncing.' There's no point grumbling about our lack of activity in the transfer window now, that's history. We need only cast our mind back to how Van Dijk transformed the dynamics of the team when he arrived.

Klopp should take a break from Liverpool. Give it Rafa 'til the end of ... (Football365.com)

The Mailbox floats an idea for Jurgen Klopp to recharge his batteries while Rafa Benitez steps in for the rest of a season already written off.

There was no way that Leeds were going to be able to afford a player that was scoring at the rate of more than a goal a game in the Bundesliga. For a start it’s reported in the Daily Mail which I trust about as much as I trust the Glazers. Even if they had been able to afford the transfer they would never have been able to afford his wages. Hypothetically what were the chances of him coming to Leeds had he been available at the end of that season? The point being that City’s style of play has been altered to accommodate him, and while he has amazing personal stats it’s ultimately to the detriment of the team. Klopp’s shown he can get the team out of this already and even if he cant this season due to having a banjaxed squad then he is still, and always bloody will be, one of the best managers on earth. While Kane would probably be brilliant anyway, just because he is brilliant, he still isn’t quite as well-suited to our style of play, and I can imagine him dropping deep to play the ball up to… It’s odd to say, but this guy who’s probably going to finish on 40 Premier League goals this season is a hindrance to the team overall. They lost 6 home games IN A ROW that year and then pulled it out of the bag with 8 wins and 2 draws in the last 10 league games to get champions league football when it seemed impossible at one stage. Someone with a connection to the club, who could quickly start to get results and is available… Liverpool just need to find a manager willing to take over for a few months to see the season out. Frankly, the season is already a bust, once Real Madrid knock Liverpool out of the CL, there will be nothing left to play for.

We had changes up front and when you have changes up front you want to have a more settled midfield, that’s clear and when it’s happening you don’t change too much and all these kind of things. Because we couldn’t do it and now we could do it a bit more; but in the past we couldn’t because everyone who was available, especially up front, had to play. We did the analysis, we spoke to each other and then we gave them two days off because it’s a very long time between Saturday and Monday. This is not a time we wanted to have or a time we are happy to be in or whatever. Of course Arsenal were dominant, that’s clear, but in the end Everton had really good chances before they scored already and the goal came from a set-piece; that’s how they scored in the end but they could have scored in other moments as well. Training was so far really good and will be, everything is in the right direction. For us, it is now not too important because the last season is long ago, we try to manage things – like workload – as much as we can. We have to prepare that – that’s what we did and will do in the upcoming days. And I’m really looking forward to a derby atmosphere, a proper atmosphere and to a proper, proper football game. But I think this is a time where as well we can show, if we want to show, that the club is really special. I really believe the better you behave in your lower moments, the quicker you get in the better moments again and then the much more success you will have in the better moments because you are just still together. We know it’s a difficult game, Sean Dyche is now there and obviously a massive impact immediately, it was obvious.

The £85m striker hasn’t scored a league goal since before the World Cup, and since the Premier League’s return, he has more shots (22) and shots on target (10) without scoring than any player in the Premier League. If you stand up to them, they don’t seem to have any answers. As Didi Hamann - a vocal critic of Klopp - said this week: “Other teams do to Liverpool what they used to do to them. “It’s just too easy to make it hard for Liverpool at the moment. Jones seems to think it's him against the world which is only angering the fans. Wolves were excellent against Liverpool and they have quality all over the pitch. I have seen a few suggestions that now is the time to push Alexander-Arnold into midfield but that's where I draw the line. United started the season poorly but it would have been easy to try and let Sancho play his way into form. Although he has had a rough season at right-back, I feel like that's the sort of change you only make when you are playing well. It wasn't a case of belittling him, his intentions were genuinely to improve his mindset, confidence and fitness levels - something that was evident against Leeds. You're in the Premier League, just leave it. He even called out the Havant and Waterlooville manager a few weeks ago, I mean come on. It's the only way I see the Reds reviving their season on the basis of their current never-ending crisis. But even I am not sure whether he can turn this around - it's a monumental task. It's like they've made a new January signing for free. If I start drinking beer now, I will go back to my old ways.
