Gave up hope of Twilight Princess & Windwaker re-releases.I'd love for those ports to appear now, but also I imagine they'll be full-price and maybe Nintendo wants us to save our money for Tears of the Kingdom? I'd take a port of GX, to be honest. Such a different culture to the dude-i-ness of the exbox shows. Go on then, spill the beans - are we really going to see a new F-Zero tonight? What a time to be alive! Arms was beautiful, but alas I think it will be the only one of its kind. It definitely feels like the right way to play the game too. hazywaze says: I love the formal style of the execs. Tonight's the big one - or at least it really should be - in which the veil will be properly lifted from the next big Zelda and we finally learn more about Tears of the Kingdom. I'll be doing a proper goodbye in due course but I wanted to say a fond farewell to everyone here.

Metroid Prime, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Advance Wars were all shown during the 40-minute streaming spectacle.

There should be eight new courses total, although expect the rest of them to be recycled from older games. The Expansion Pack version of the service will offer some all-time classics, including Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. A demo with the game’s opening hours is now available on the eShop, in this sequel to the quite-well-loved old-school JRPG. Wave 2 is Side Order, and comes out later in the year, and has the most astonishingly different sepia, arty aesthetic. It’s some sort of deviant alchemy that no one stopped to ask whether they should. Mike Bithell is back with another indie approach to a movie license, this time Tron. It’s out some time this year. This included a look at the next wave of The best bit about Tears of the Kingdom’s presence in the February Direct was that there was no much-feared news of a delay to the release date. Coming in two waves, the first arriving in Spring, players will get to revisit the original game’s Inkopolis hub, complete with some familiar shopkeepers. Splatoon 3’s single-player portion was good fun, but we were hoping something a bit meatier would arrive down the line and ‘Side Order’ looks like it could fill that void. While packed with gameplay footage, Nintendo is still keeping the game’s finer details shrouded in secrecy. More importantly, we met the space dog Oatchi ( After watching the best trailer for the game yet at least 10 times, we can’t wait any longer than that. More titles for both platforms will be added in the future. It’s been a long time coming, but Nintendo Switch Online is finally getting Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles. Retro gamers were very well catered for, and as expected, we got our meatiest trailer yet for the sequel to what many consider to be the best video game ever made. Nintendo Direct | The smaller gems lurking beneath the big hitters (whynow)

Zelda and Metroid Prime Remastered rightly hogged the limelight, but there were also some exciting indie games in the Nintendo Direct roster.

Still, the breadth of genres, styles and ideas on display is hard to deny; the Switch may be approaching its sixth birthday, but the level of support for it – both from major studios and relatively tiny indies – shows no sign of slowing down. There was the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection, an HD compendium of three cult JRPG classics, and Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster, a revival of two JRPGs from the GameCube era. Then came Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time – a sequel to the distinctly kawaii Fantasy Life that graced the Nintendo 3DS in 2012. Sea of Stars, the upcoming RPG from the creators of The Messenger, has some beautiful visuals, too. Equally colourful is Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, a new game from French developer Don’t Nod. Nor was that the only title from Level 5, who must be one of the busiest developers in Japan. There was also Professor Layton and the World of Steam, a continuation of its long-running adventure-puzzler series. The sentient radish-wrangling premise is present and correct, though the big mechanical twist here seems to be the addition of a big, soppy dog. DecaPolice looks like another action RPG in the vein of Ni No Kuni and its sequel, albeit with a more mature anime theme than the Studio Ghibli-designed fantasy of those earlier titles. Then there’s the surprise return of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective – Capcom’s macabre adventure for the Nintendo DS that was widely overlooked on its original release in 2010. Social media’s abuzz with speculation in the build-up to each one, and then there’s plenty of chatter about what was announced afterwards – whether it’s excitement over a big reveal or disappointment that Nintendo still hasn’t got around to making a new Kid Icarus game. February 2023’s Nintendo Direct was rightly dominated by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, finally out on 12 May after what feels like decades of teases and anticipation.

The latest Nintendo Direct has revealed new information on much-anticipated games, updates and even surprise releases, as Kieran Webb reports.

Choices and decision-making play an enormous factor in the outcome of the game. Not only are great titles like Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4 releasing, but players are receiving the chance to buy an overwhelming amount of new content for all their favourite games. Nintendo confirmed that a collection of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games became available via Nintendo Switch Online after the Direct concluded. This includes the introduction of a new hero called Masha and rogue-like challenge battles in the Archsage’s Gauntlet. The new Deluxe remaster of the 2011 Wii game includes a newly revealed epilogue after completing the main story. Players follow Yuma, a trainee detective, and Shinigami – the spirit haunting him. The World Party mode also allows players to challenge others from around the world in dance battles. A glimpse of two usable vehicles was featured in the gameplay trailer, showing off a large land vehicle and an even larger aircraft capable of hovering. A new Amiibo of Link was also announced, granting access to materials, weapons, and special fabric for Link’s paraglider. An enigmatic look at the Wave 2 DLC, titled Side Order, showed off a cryptic single-player experience but did not reveal a release date. These vehicles could both be the same piece of some new Sheika technology Link will use to navigate a massive new world featuring a heavier focus on sky gameplay. Time will tell if Ganon is the villainous voice featured in the trailer, as it is not confirmed whether he will return as the game’s antagonist.
