RTE's Late Late Show is hosting a Eurosong special to determine which Irish act will head to Liverpool in May.

A recipient of the Imelda May Scholarship, Leila Jane has been called one to watch this year. The son of a Galway-born father and a Cork-born mother (Jimmy and Eileen) his links to the country are first-generation. He also explained the public voting system to viewers, which does open until after all six acts have performed. The rest of the judges agreed, all agreeing the Longford rappers brought something different to the contest with their song. Now 19-year-old, the artist is a fan favourite to represent Ireland. The group performed their song We are One, written with Grammy-nominated songwriter Jörgen Elofsson. Among the acts going head to head for a chance to represent the country in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest is Galway native Jennifer Connolly, one of the favourites to win tonight's show. The semi-finals are scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, when Ireland's representative will first perform, and Thursday, May 11. The song was a hit with the judges who praised her performance, with former Eurovision stars Jedaward applauding the song. Many of the other judges agreed, applauding the group for bringing such a poignant song to the stage, but were unsure if the song was suited for the contest in May. Although born in London, Lydon has strong Irish roots. Liverpool will play host to this year's Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of last year's winner's Ukraine, with the final of the competition set to take place at the Liverpool Arena on Saturday, May 13.

The song is described as described as "a pensive, personal yet universal love song that will resonate with many" and is also "dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most". The four other acts that are in the running to represent Ireland at the 67th Eurovision contest are ADGY, Leila Jane, K Muni & ND (Kofi Appiah and Nevlonne Dampare) and Jennifer Connolly. Their song 'We are one' was written with Grammy nominated songwriter Jörgen Elofsson and the band say they "hope that everyone loves the song that we’ve written and believe we can be the band to represent Ireland this year."
