A special concert is taking place this evening to thank emergency services personnel who worked at the scene of the explosion in Creeslough, Co Donegal, ...

The concert began with a reflection to honour the ten people who died. Keith Duffy said he was honoured to be part of the night and said it amazes him how the people of Creeslough and the country responded to the tragedy. When the tragedy happened, singer Brian McFadden said people were heartbroken but, he said, we saw how the community came together and felt the only thing we could do was a music show.

“Music,” he said, “as we all know, plays a huge part in life in Donegal. Opening the concert, Moya Brennan and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh said “even though this tragedy happened in Creeslough, it happened to all of the Donegal people, who are all with you”. Originated by former Westlife singer Brian McFadden and promoter Joe Gallagher, the concert is being held in support of the people of Creeslough and to thank the emergency services and all those who helped in the rescue effort.

The pair evoked a huge emotional response when they appeared on The Late Late Show just a week after the tragedy and played The Beatles song In My Life as a tribute to the people of the Donegal village which they played again tonight. But what followed was a night of music, song and ultimately hope as the community of Creeslough try to regroup and rebuild but never forgetting the ten local people killed in this still unthinkable tragedy.
