Flybe collapse - what are my rights and what should I do next? (The Irish Times)

If you have flights booked, there is no point in sugar coating it - the news is bad.

Time limits do apply, and consumers typically have 120 days from the time they become aware of the problem to apply for a refund. It will very much depend on the kindness of those with whom you have booked. While passengers will have a legal right to claim compensation under UK regulations on air passenger rights, if the airline goes out of business, then all claims will to be filed with administrator or liquidators. It is possible that some may offer flights at reduced rates - known as rescue fares in the trade - in light of the circumstances, and while passengers may as well ask for such fares, it is more likely they will have to buy tickets to get home at full price. I have flights booked with the airline and am waiting to depart. It may be possible to make a claim under your travel insurance policy, if you have travel insurance.

The Holywood woman, who is going to Melbourne to work, said her mum heard about Flybe on the radio and it had all been very stressful. "I was a bit confused, went online checked the news websites, checked Flybe and saw that, yes, it actually had been cancelled," she told BBC News NI. Ryanair and EasyJet ready to snap up Flybe staff (BBC News)

Airlines are inviting employees of the collapsed airline to fill vacancies for cabin crew and other roles.

"The original Flybe company collapsed with around 70 aircrafts and we were just going into the industry-wide shock that Covid created. Flybe first went into administration in March 2020, knocked off course by the pandemic, which saw almost all flights grounded. Balpa's Mr Chalk said he would like to work with the sector and the government to try to ensure there was a more stable market, rather than "the churn" of companies picking up staff from each other. Mr Strickland said Flybe had not succeeded in taking advantage of the return in travel demand, due to stiff competition, rising fuel prices and because the airline lacked "a clear and defensible business strategy, given that regional flying is the toughest segment to be in". EasyJet said it was not currently advertising for pilots, but would encourage Flybe cabin crew to apply for the 250 vacancies it has at Gatwick and Luton airports. Staff who have lost their jobs due to the collapse of regional airline Flybe should apply for roles with EasyJet and Ryanair, say the two budget operators.
