Mark Allen claimed his third major title of the season at the World Grand Prix, holding off a brilliant comeback from Judd Trump to win Sunday's final 10-9.
A relieved Allen told ITV4 afterwards: "I actually said to Judd at the end he had me completely gone. Neither player was at their fluent best in the afternoon, but Allen gritted his teeth to ensure he held a sizeable lead at the end of the session, finding some rhythm late on as he produced breaks of 58, 88, 63 and 77. Much of the heavy lifting appeared to have been done in the afternoon session when Allen won five frames on the bounce to lead 6-2, but Trump raised his game significantly in the evening as the match delivered a dramatic finale.

Mark tries a deadweight long red to the bottom right to hold for the black, but it's way off and he's left Judd a red to right middle. Judd misses a red long to the bottom right, and Mark can't chase it in thereafter using the rest. A few shots later both Judd and Mark twitch on reds to middle bags, missing badly, before Judd taps the penultimate red in to the bottom right. Mark breaks, and it's a loose one that leaves a red on to the left middle. At the get go in frame 11, Mark serenely deadweights a red into the bottom right and pops up off the bottom cushion to land perfectly on the black. He's in first as Mark misses a long red to the bottom left and leaves it over the yellow pocket. The second is damaging, as it leaves Mark a cut on a red to right middle and he drops it in. Judd needs two efforts to connect with a two cushion escape, and leaves a red on to the right middle. Judd takes one on to the bottom right, and misses it; Mark tags one into the bottom left, but can't put the brown into the right middle thereafter and he's gifted a chance to Judd. Mark misses a thin cut on a red to right middle to finish it, and Judd takes a red-black but fails to land a snooker on the final red. Judd's snooker behind the yellow retrieves things though, as Mark fails to escape and leaves a red on to the bottom right. Judd gets in with a long red to the bottom right, and he's on the green.
Mark Allen has a handsome advantage at the midway stage of the World Grand Prix final, leading Judd Trump 6-2 ahead of the evening session.

"I actually said to Judd at the end, he had me completely gone. he started looking so comfortable out there, so I am proud to get over the line. "But I was completely gone. "Judd is a great competitor and came back. "I really struggled most of the week, but probably played some of my best snooker to go 7-2 up early in the final," Allen added. He got back in again with a tremendous plant but was unlucky not to get good position on the black and had to play safe. Trump potted a red but missed the yellow. Allen then turned the tables by snookering Trump on the yellow, which proved enough to finally settle the frame thanks to a foul on the black followed by a concession. With all the colours still on the table Trump required a four-point snooker to take the frame to a re-spotted black. Crucially that meant he was in line to secure his place for the remainder of the Duelbits Series. Allen landed the UK Championship title after a 10-7 win over Ding Junhui in the final back in November while Trump was crowned Masters champion at Alexandra Palace just eight days ago after a 10-8 defeat of Mark Williams.
Mark Allen secures one of the biggest wins of his career by claiming the World Grand Prix title with a 10-9 victory over Judd Trump.
A fluke proved pivotal in Trump getting back on level terms, a 58 break following that moment of good fortune, and although Allen got his nose back in front, Trump responded with a 76 to take the match and tournament the distance. The remarkable show of quality continued as Allen produced his own 141 to claim an 8-4 lead at the interval, but a clearance of 87 helped Trump get back to within two frames. Trump battled back from 7-2 adrift to level the match at 8-8, but the Masters champion squandered chances in the final frame to let in Allen to claim one of the most notable triumphs of his career.

I am choosing the shots that are best for the occasion and how I am thinking on any given day. “Judd got on a run and he is hard to stop when he is like that. Yes it would have been nicer to finish it in one go in the last frame, but to get over the line after being so far ahead shows the strength in character that I’ve got,” said 36-year-old Allen. Allen stepped in and composed a break of 52 to get over the line and claim the title. That stands him in position to secure a place in the remainder of the Duelbits Series. The Ace in the Pack put on a supreme display of break building on his way to forcing a decider. Victory for the Pistol is a continuation of the best season of his career so far. The evening action couldn’t have been any more different, with four of the first five frames being won to nil with big breaks. Meanwhile Trump will move into the top eight thanks to taking the £40,000 runner-up prize. This all comes off the back of a strict fitness regime over the summer, which has seen Allen shed nearly six stone.
