Everton sack manager Frank Lampard after calamitous run of defeats (Irish Examiner)

Frank Lampard has become the latest managerial casualty at Everton after being sacked following a dreadful run of 11 defeats in 14 games.

Lampard had overseen just one win in his last 12 Premier League matches and had been in a precarious position since the Boxing Day home defeat by Wolves, who were bottom at the time. Everton chose to stand by their latest manager with Moshiri claiming he had faith in Lampard’s work and that stability was required only 12 days before sacking him. Moshiri left the London Stadium, where he made a rare visit to watch the team, bizarrely claiming that a decision on Lampard’s future was not his to make.

The Toffees' 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers West Ham proved the final straw, according to multiple reports in the British media.

Speaking about his own future, Lampard said: “Those things are not my choice. Lampard took Chelsea into the Champions League during his one full season as manager at Stamford Bridge, but was dismissed in January 2021 with the Blues in ninth place in the Premier League. But Everton are now looking for their eighth permanent manager in less than seven years after Lampard failed to build on the momentum from that successful end to last term. But Moshiri, watching Everton for the first time in more than a year at the West Ham game, was far less supportive when asked after the match whether it was time for Lampard to be sacked. Lampard arrived at Everton 12 months ago with the team languishing in 16th place and the former Chelsea and England midfielder initially looked a shrewd appointment, helping the Merseyside club avoid relegation. EVERTON HAVE SACKED manager Frank Lampard after less than a year in charge at the Goodison Park club, British media have reported.
