Showers will continue through the night, with lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees. Met Éireann have said that westerly winds will be very strong and gusty today. It follows a status yellow wind and rain warning which was in effect across Munster yesterday evening.

The UK’s Met Office has issued its equivalent to a Status Yellow warning for wind for all six counties of Northern Ireland. Met Éireann has issued further weather warnings for wind and rain today, with one county in particular set to bear the brunt.

The warning it did issue read: "Winds will increase from the west during Thursday afternoon, with a period of gales, locally, severe gales developing across Northern Ireland during the evening. Large waves could be an additional hazard." It showed that gusts of 82mph had been measured at Brizlee Wood, near Alnwick in Northumberland - with winds reaching 70mph in Cleveland. The national weather forecaster had issued a yellow weather warning for parts of the north west - but not for the north east, which saw some of the country's strongest winds. In a tweet, the Met Office said "the wind continues to be strong this evening" - and shared a league table of the highest wind speeds recorded round the UK.

On Friday, showers and sunny spells are expected in the morning, but showers will die out towards midday - becoming mostly sunny for a time. Winds will gradually weaken tonight to a fresh westerly wind but the showers will continue with some clear intervals.
