Iggy Pop gave us a taste of what those sessions were like when Pop brought out his all-star band to perform “Frenzy” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Their collective screams of “Frenzy” during the chorus added even more energy to the performance while the arrangement was as tight and blistering as the one on the record. The likes of Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer played on every loser while the whole thing was led by super producer Andrew Watt. His performance was electric and engaging as ever as the 75-year-old pranced around the stage in nothing but a vest and pants.

Last night, Iggy Pop performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live as the musical guest. He played “Frenzy” from his album Every Loser which came out earlier this month.

It wouldn't be fair to call Every Loser a comeback album, but it is a return to the version of Iggy Pop the world knows and loves.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Pop’s career is the way he’s been able to simultaneously invoke and reinvent his signature aesthetic, including on the 2016 Josh Homme collaboration Post Pop Depression, and Every Loser finds him openly embracing the public’s perception of Iggy Pop. It wouldn’t be fair to call Every Loser a comeback album, but it is a return to the version of Iggy Pop the world knows and loves: gnarly, confrontational, and blisteringly intense. And while the album has enough grit and hooks to be enjoyed in a straightforward manner – not to mention all-star contributions from members of Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, blink-182, and Jane’s Addiction, as well as what might be the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins’ final recordings – it also serves to reaffirm the complexity of Iggy Pop’s persona.

Combined with the album’s flab-free, nine song/two skit, 37 minute brevity, and the high quotient of memorably catchy songs, Every Loser is an essential for Iggy fans, and may even persuade those doubters too. Emphatically punching up the rock aspect, the backing band are Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer of Red Hot Chili Peppers (present and past), and Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses. Instead, while laced with delicious, crooned West Coast rock slowies, such as the lost sunrise sadness of "Morning Show", it's also righteously rooted in goofy
