Another good shift from Gil and he gets a big ovation from the crowd. It's a potent front three which should cause Pompey plenty of problems, especially with their renewed confidence. He's a talented player." One more to go for Harry Kane to become Spurs' joint all-time top scorer with Jimmy Greaves. Son Heung-min has opened up on the troubles he has had with his face mask, including his struggles to see the ball during a game. Emerson Royal gets the nod over Djed Spence which won't go down too well with the Spurs fans while Ryan Sessegnon comes in for Ivan Perisic, who with Eric Dier gets a complete rest from the squad and Fraser Forster gets his third start in a Tottenham shirt. In behind it's a big chance for Pape Matar Sarr with his full debut for the club after impressing from the bench in recent games. Tottenham have made a late change to the starting XI with Oliver Skipp replacing Yves Bissouma in the team. He plays a one-two with Sessegnon and curls a beauty into the far right corner of the net. It has been a very lively start to this FA Cup contest in N17, with Portsmouth fans making plenty of noise from the away end. With Spurs next in action against Arsenal in eight days' time, the head coach has a decision to make over players such as Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as they need to ensure they are not victims of a cup shock. [Antonio Conte](https://www.football.london/all-about/antonio-conte) and his [Spurs](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/) team will be looking to register another win and ensure they are in the hat for the FA Cup fourth round draw.

Tottenham vs Portsmouth - FA Cup third round: Live score, team ... (Daily Mail)

Tottenham are going on yet another cup run as they chase a first trophy in 14 years - and they'll have to ensure there is no shock upset against League One ...

Pompey go with the same back five however as they look to cause an almighty upset in north London. Halfway through the first-half here and nothing to separate the teams here. Spurs try to counter but Skipp loses control of the ball. He cuts inside and is completely wiped out by Hume who gives away a free-kick in a dangerous position. Spurs are awarded a free-kick just outside the box. Swanson blocks another cross out for another corner - Spurs' seventh of the half. Hackett-Fairfield stands over the ball and whips in a tempting delivery. Let's take a look at the current scores. The ball makes its way to Bryan Gil who tries to dance out of trouble but cannot get his feat sorted. Neither manager has opted to make any changes yet and we are back underway. He plays a quick one-two with Sessegnon and curls a beauty into the far right corner past the helpless Griffiths. The South Korean has a pop at goal but his effort flies widly over.

Notebook – Spurs vs Portsmouth (Tottenham Hotspur)

Our 2022/23 FA Cup journey begins this lunchtime as we host Portsmouth in the third round at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (kick-off 12.30pm).

It might have been an even run between us and Portsmouth across our histories but, in recent years, we have been the dominant force in this fixture. The FA Cup is a competition we have a rich history in. In terms of the third round, we have played 140 ties at this stage and have lost just 31 of those – and have tasted just one defeat at this stage in the last 16 seasons.

Tottenham vs Portsmouth: Player ratings as Harry Kane edges ... (iNews)

Kane needs two goals in the north London derby to overtake Spurs' all-time leading goalscorer after seeing Spurs past Portsmouth in the FA Cup third round.

There was always a question of how he would react to the With his options limited, there was little Conte could do to see the game out but he did hand a rare appearance to Djed Spence, who would now be cup-tied if he did move away on loan this month. There were flashes of invention from the young winger again and Spurs’ task now is to allow him to push higher up the pitch and establish himself in a position where Kane and Son can make the best of his runs, particularly as he continues to adapt physically. Spurs’ opener had nearly come from a far unlikelier source moments earlier when Emerson Royal met Son Heung-min’s cross and headed onto the post. Fraser Forster, who spent eight years on Southampton’s books, was already the most unpopular man in the away end when he managed to get down to deny Hackett’s ambitious scissor kick. While that has cost them so many times this season, there was a little more leeway here against League One opposition, who sacked manager Danny Cowley in midweek after a winless nine-game streak.

Tottenham player ratings vs Portsmouth: Harry Kane edges close to ... (Football.London)

Here are our Tottenham Hotspur player ratings after their 1-0 victory against Portsmouth in the FA Cup third round on Saturday afternoon.

Lacked service in the first half but opened the scoring five minutes after the break with a fine curling finish after a one-two with Sessegnon. He did grab an assist though with his part in a one-two with Kane for the striker's goal. Worked hard while trying to play in a more attacking role than Sarr in a very young midfield pairing. His movement off the ball is very good as is his anticipation, making a number of important interceptions. Offered little down the right until getting on the end of a Son cross and was unfortunate to send his header across goal and off the left-hand post. Nothing got past him and he used the ball well with his head and feet.
