He is now 26, and has been without a club since a contract with Watford expired in the summer of 2021. Moments later, Nuri Sahin, who was on loan from Real Madrid, swept home Oussama Assaidi’s cross to seal a 2-1 win. The 23-year-old striker has not featured for the northeast side since September 17, having picked up a thigh injury while on international duty with Switzerland in that month. More drama was to come when Wolves thought they had a stunning late winner through Toti only to be denied by the raising off an offside flag. There was an element of fortune involved as Salah was clearly in an offside position from a pass over the Wolves defense. But a moment of brilliance saw them go into the half-time interval on level terms. We came back with a fantastic equaliser, everything was clear at half-time what we wanted to improve and change to cause them more problems. We kept the problems in the game. "It was a good start, a dominant start," Klopp told ITV.
It was a difficult night for Jurgen Klopp's men, who now must play a replay against Julen Lopetegui's side.
Toti was denied a winner nine minutes from time by an offside flag and while the visitors returned home boosted ahead of a big week for them Klopp was left to ponder the mysteries of yet another sub-standard performance. Collins’ cross-field ball to no-one was picked up by Alexander-Arnold who advanced and crossed for Uruguay international Nunez to score his first goal since returning from the World Cup. Even an encouraging debut from £38 million (€43 million) signing Cody Gakpo could not hide the failings of a performance that lurched from the bad to the brilliant and back to poor again.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted his team started well against Wolves before going behind in their FA Cup clash at Anfield.
"The second goal for Liverpool is the same because the rule, I think it's the same ruling on Europe, in the leagues. "We have seen someone tell him that it is offside because we have seen the image and it doesn't exist. "That's obviously, then you don't want to have that in this game but if it was not offside then it's unlucky, but if it was offside then it is the right decision."

But another crack at the [FA Cup](https://www.irishmirror.ie/all-about/fa-cup) holders was the least [Wolves](https://www.irishmirror.ie/all-about/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc) deserved after an enterprising display that exposed Liverpool’s continuing frailties. And even though they did, after all, have a helping hand from Alisson, they probably had a point. It was certainly very tight and The error, made by a player whose praises were indeed being sung loudly by Klopp before the game, typified Liverpool’s early offerings - casual and deeply unconvincing. It probably did not help that the atmosphere, by Anfield’s exalted standards, was relatively flat. Still, what do you expect when an FA Cup tie is scheduled for eight o’clock on a January Saturday night? Talking of failed passes, Klopp could not have legislated for the aberration from Alisson that gifted Wolves the lead shortly before the half-hour mark. The 23-year-old did likewise here, striking up a semi-rapport with Andy Robertson, even if his tendency to cut inside on to his right foot was quickly obvious. [Trent Alexander-Arnold](https://www.irishmirror.ie/all-about/trent-alexander-arnold) - to the feet of [Goncalo Guedes,](https://www.irishmirror.ie/all-about/goncalo-guedes) who almost had no choice but to accept the gift. Have your say! [Cody Gakpo](https://www.irishmirror.ie/all-about/cody-gakpo), the Dutch striker who made a very decent impression at [Qatar](https://www.irishmirror.ie/all-about/qatar) 2022. Jürgen Klopp said his team deserved no more than a draw following Liverpool's 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup.
It's not that they had now chance after chance, what it causes us is a lot of effort to put it right in the end and if you are already there, so you could win it where you are, then you don't have to run back and try to solve the problems there. there was a discussion, I didn't start the discussion, I got a question and the question I don’t think we should have them, but I knew we still have them. There is a similar situation in the Arsenal game where one angle was missing and in the end everybody thought it was [a] clear offside, but we couldn't prove it because the angle isn't there. look, you watch a game and then you see the things that happen. It was unlucky, Ibou is there but it hits Hwang and then the ball rolls over the line. There are a lot of situations where I thought they win a challenge and all of sudden we are completely open; we had two or three players in the challenge moving to the ball and when you are there, fine, you have to win the ball. It was clear that we have now to go to Wolves; Wolves [are] probably in this moment more happy about it than we are, but until then we will be happy enough to give it a go. It was not an open game, but nothing really happened a lot, but we still kept not winning these challenges, like around the second goal when I think we were in possession and had the ball, gave the ball away and then they go in our box without a real challenge. We played kind of OK, not really convincing that you thought, 'OK, it will happen immediately.' The goal we scored was outstanding, outstanding, and we had a few really good balls we played, a few good situations where we played in their formation. If you don't do that and they can get out then it looks like, 'Where are they?' But for the whole game I thought we didn't win enough challenges, to be honest. [It was a] good start in the game, dominant, played well, tried to create, had half-chances, good moments.

[Liverpool](https://www.theguardian.com/football/liverpool) are being patient on the ball and are slowly building, Wolves are trying to press them but it’s not too aggressive. Right now Wolves are trying to get a hold into the match but it is all 30 min: Alexander-Arnold tries to find Robertson but has too much on it, Konate does his best to keep it in play but it is out for a goal kick. Toti was denied a winner nine minutes from time by an offside flag and while the visitors returned home boosted ahead of a big week for them Klopp was left to ponder the mysteries of yet another sub-standard performance. The game appeared to freeze awaiting a decision from referee Andy Madley and no-one more so than Alisson, who was looking at Alexander-Arnold but inexplicably passed straight to Guedes who could not miss an open goal. Alisson did much better with a Guedes strike from 25 yards, palming to safety, before on the stroke of half-time Liverpool scored a brilliant equaliser their play had barely deserved. Even an encouraging debut from £38million signing Cody Gakpo could not hide the failings of a performance which lurched from the bad to the brilliant and back to poor again. Two pieces of goalscoring brilliance were unable to paper over the cracks of holders Liverpool’s unconvincing start to their FA Cup defence in a 2-2 draw against an under-strength Wolves side.
