Television: RTÉ's annual fitness frenzy has dropped its humiliating weigh-in segment, but it's all a bit flabby.

Operation Transformation has become a fixture on the RTÉ schedule over the past decade and a half (hosted initially by the late Gerry Ryan). The assumption is that we are invested in the show and no effort is made to reel us in. Kathryn Thomas, the host, is enthusiastic, as are expert advisers, who include Dr Sumi Dunne, Karl Henry and Sophie Pratt. This season, Operation Transformation returns to its core strengths of showcasing members of the public with moving personal stories. The series is back after a challenging several years.

Operation Transformation star Karl Henry has spoken about how he deals with criticism of the RTÉ fitness and weight-loss programme.

We make a health-and-wellness show of which weight is one topic of 14 indicators that we use to track people’s progress. We work off what the medics say and they say if you are overweight, you are at a higher risk of absolutely everything and that’s what we work off. “It’s the age we live in: everyone’s entitled to an opinion and people will always have an opinion. But such is life,” Henry said. Our viewership remains steady and that’s great and we know that if you lose weight, you are healthier.” And everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Distance and cross country runner Paddy McLoughlin of Oughaval Athletic Club will lead the Ad Break Challenge with fitness trainer Karl Henry, which will be ...

Oughaval AC, Annanough GAA and Vicarstown parkrun are among the groups encouraging everyone to join Paddy in the challenge, which will feature in the second episode of Operation Transformation at 9.30pm on Wednesday 11 January. A popular choice as the second Ad Break Hero, following in the footsteps of Ann Simpson from Stradbally, Paddy is a regular at Vicarstown’s weekly Saturday morning parkrun with his wife Agnes and their five children. New Operation Transformation Ad Break hero announced as ... (Laois Today)

And the the Ad Break hero this week is Oughaval Athletic Club's Paddy McLoughlin who will be teaming up with Karl Henry for this week's exercise challenge.

Filming is set to take place on the pitch in Annanough GAA though it could move indoor to the Vicarstown Community Hall, depending on the weather. Oughaval AC, Annanough GAA and Vicarstown parkrun are among the clubs that are encourageing everyone from around the county to come and join Paddy in the Ad Break Challenge. And the the Ad Break hero this week is Oughaval Athletic Club’s Paddy McLoughlin who will be teaming up with Karl Henry for the latest exercise challenge.
