What to know about the new weight loss drug tirzepatide. Will it be ... (NBC News)

An Eli Lilly drug, if approved for weight loss, is expected to become the best-selling drug of all time, but concerns are mounting about who can afford it.

[The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act](https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/1577), which would have allowed the federal government to expand Medicare Part D coverage to include anti-obesity medications. “Patients tell me that it appears to them as if insurance companies want to wait until they get so sick that they have more of a necessity for a medication,” she said. Lofton, of NYU Langone Health, said insurance coverage of anti-obesity drugs may not improve until more people in the medical field change how they view obesity. Patients usually aren’t reimbursed by their insurance plan for the money they’ve already spent on the drugs, she added. Holly Lofton, the director of the weight management program at NYU Langone Health, regularly prescribes the new drugs to her patients but many, she says, are denied coverage by their insurance. Most [ patients in the trial](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35658024/) had a body mass index, or BMI, of 30 or higher. [ phase 3 clinical trial](https://investor.lilly.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lillys-tirzepatide-delivered-225-weight-loss-adults-obesity-or) found a high dose of tirzepatide helped patients lose 22.5% of their body weight on average, or about 52 pounds, better than any medication currently on the market. If the FDA confirms the drug’s effectiveness, a “fair” price for tirzepatide could be around $13,000 annually, or around $1,100 a month, said Dr. The drugs have been shown in clinical trials to be highly effective for weight loss. What’s more, Butsch said, not everyone responds the same way to any given weight loss drug. Experts are confident that the drug, called tirzepatide, will be granted approval by the Food and Drug Administration sometime next year. Kelly Smith, a spokesperson for Eli Lilly, declined to comment on what tirzepatide will cost.

We are at a time of year when booze-induced dread peaks. So I quit ... (The Guardian)

Facing fear and uncertainty without reaching for liquid courage unlocked a new level of confidence in my life.

In that feeling of relief itself (wine won’t cure my husband of disease) and also in undermining my ability to navigate the turmoil that was 2021 while being fully present. But while I knew that reaching for a glass of wine would give the impression of immediate “relief”, I also knew the feeling it promised was deceitful. Not being able to be with my husband while he was in hospital for surgery led to a level of fear I had never known before, that had manifested even as physical pain. Alcohol seems to fit this need with the immediate impact of increasing the body’s production of serotonin and dopamine, the “happy” hormones. I thought the first days of sobriety would be my hardest. I quickly learnt that having a “drink” (soda water with lemon) in hand was enough to stifle unwanted curiosity and avoid empty-hand anxiety.

200 Best Singers of All Time (Rolling Stone)

And on immortal hits like “Heat Wave,” “Dancing in the Street,” and “Nowhere to Run,” Reeves did it — sang pop hits with deep soul, or made soul records that popped like corn — as well as anyone. Dion had the swagger of a teen Sinatra (“Runaround Sue”), but he also had the heart of a premature old soul (“Abraham, Martin and John”). His happy burble on “The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite,” from the latter, and his steely keen on the former’s closer, “Me in Honey,” tell the story as well as the hits do. An instrument of power, precision, and staggering range, it was the central feature of her debut album, Some Hearts, and hits like “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” “Before He Cheats,” and “Wasted.” Fifteen years and numerous hits later, she’s still singing like she’s got something to prove — 2022’s Denim & Rhinestones has a more aggressive rock edge than some of her past work and boasts some of her most demanding vocal work yet. “A certain reverence for the past, and a steady determination to take her place in the long story she was telling.” —A.M. Nobody can top Morrissey when it comes to flamboyantly melancholy ballads, in the grandeur of “I Know It’s Over,” “Now My Heart Is Full,” or his signature song, “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.” —R.S. 2013’s “Vivir Mi Vida” — a tropical reinvention of a hit by Algerian star Khaled — found him at the top of his game, while the rugged title track of his 2022 album, Pa’llá Voy, confirms him as one of the most distinctive and expressive vocalists in the Afro-Caribbean spectrum. Throughout her prolific discography, she pushes hard in both directions, as on 2014’s “Brooklyn Baby,” when she plays a coquettish character with her tone of feigned innocence, or 2021’s “White Dress,” on which she reveals all the scratches and imperfections of her airy head voice. His gritty warmth is there in rugged ballads like “Turn the Page,” “Mainstreet,” and “The Famous Final Scene,” but most of all in the 9-minute Live Bullet medley of “Travelin’ Man”/“Beautiful Loser,” where he’s barely in his thirties, but already looking back at a life of blown chances. pop market cemented her status as “The Madonna of the Middle East.” —I.W. She grew up singing in church, graduating to prime pop bangers like “I Wanna Be Down” and “Sittin’ Up in My Room.” She hit Number One at the height of the TRL era with her Monica duet “The Boy Is Mine.” Brandy aimed for a more adult tone in her Coldplay-influenced 2004 Afrodisiac and a duet with her brother Ray J on the Phil Collins remake “Another Day in Paradise.” She also sang in a classic Verzuz battle in 2020, going up against her old rival (and friend) Monica.

But for the creatures of field and forest it’s been a living nightmare because, unfortunately, the festive season witnesses an upsurge in recreational killing and tormenting of wildlife. What gives joy to a human participant in this cruelty brings only terror, suffering, or an agonised death to the creatures that find themselves on the butt end of the “fun.” They need that peculiar buzz they get from blasting pheasants out of the sky or at almost point blank range on the ground; or corralling captive hares into compounds and then setting dogs on them for “sport”; or mounting a horse to chase a single fox across country for miles with a baying pack of hounds.
