A billboard for Prince Andrew: The Musical has been installed outside of the Woking branch of Pizza Express, according to reports.

The band said in a statement that the song aimed to “re-open the conversation around [the Queen’s] son Prince Andrew’s conduct at this time when the establishment appear to want it swept under the carpet”. “The story of Prince Andrew is tragedy and farce rolled into one, so why not add ‘musical’ for good measure?” Hodgson said in a statement. Prince Andrew: The Musical is described as a “satirical send-up” and will feature seven original songs. He added: “Going to Pizza Express in Woking is an unusual thing for me to do, a very unusual thing for me to do. The settlement, which makes no admission of liability, saw Andrew pay Giuffre an undisclosed sum as well as make a “substantial donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights”. I was with the children and I’d taken Beatrice to a Pizza Express in Woking for a party at I suppose, sort of, four or five in the afternoon.”

Prince Andrew: The Musical review – plays the Epstein scandal for ... (The Guardian)

This romp through Andrew's life and scandals is full of entertainment. But it makes light of a genuine horror and lets the royal off the hook far, ...

“However,” it adds, “he remains: duke of York, a counsellor of state and eighth in line to the throne.” It feels slightly wrong to be playing it merely for laughs, as if the Queen’s favourite son merely went slightly too far with his shenanigans this time. The characterisations, apart from Hodgson’s as the Duke of York, are oddly inaccurate, coming as they do from someone normally so brilliant at giving us the essence of a thing. Then a brisk trot with roughly one number per era through his childhood as his mother’s favourite son, his years in the navy and fighting in the Falklands (“Raise the flag at Port Stanley / How can one man be this manly!”) and his time as eligible bachelor “Randy Andy” before he settled down, albeit relatively briefly, with Sarah Ferguson. Not regretting his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein due to “the people that I met and the opportunities I was given to learn”. But while Prince Andrew: The Musical is to be applauded as a great near-solo feat, it never quite flies.

Prince Andrew: The Musical is tasteless and should never have ... (The Independent)

Kieran Hodgson stars in a jauntily satirical trip through the life of the controversy-hit royal. Channel 4's latest stunt commission might be well ...

The format of the breezy song-and-dance musical is fundamentally incompatible with a subject as dark as sexual assault. On Twitter, the court of public opinion may have sentenced him long ago to death by a thousand memes, but Channel 4 is bound to the legal truths of his case. This legal ambiguity – an inability to say he is or is not guilty – allows the programme to dance around with the horrible realities of what Andrew has been accused of. Bound by the legally established facts of the duke’s various scandals, Prince Andrew could scarcely be called a hit piece. It’s fair to assume that Prince Andrew: The Musical would not have been commissioned had he been found guilty in the sexual assault lawsuit that was eventually settled, or if his ties to Epstein had been revealed to run deeper than just an ill-advised friendship. But even for those who detest Prince Andrew, there’s no getting around the fundamental tastelessness of its premise.
