Luka Dončić put up a historic triple-double in the Dallas Mavericks' thrilling 126-121 overtime win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday.

“Just to be able to stay together and trust, Luka had a big part in that. Give the Knicks credit, they were making a lot of threes that we didn’t think were possible. I mean, it’s just incredible to be in those comparisons and just to be with those guys, at any stage. “But just his competitiveness to win is at a very high level – and you saw that displayed tonight. There’s a lot of things we’ve learned from our losses in close games like this.” As you can see, he’s picking up full-court, we had a big jump ball.

Luka Doncic Has 60 Points, 21 Rebounds and 10 Assists (The New York Times)

It was the first 60-point game of the N.B.A. Basketball Reference gave the performance a “game score” of 56.3, the best in the league since Harden’s game and the Three of the four 50-20-10 games in N.B.A. At 23 and in just his fifth N.B.A. The Knicks led the game by 9 points with 42 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, but Doncic helped lead a Mavericks comeback that forced overtime. The other highest point totals with 20 rebounds and 10 assists all came more than 50 years ago: Wilt Chamberlain’s 53-32-14 in 1968, Elgin Baylor’s 52-25-10 in 1961 and Chamberlain’s 51-29-11 in 1963. No player since the 1960s had tallied 50 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in an N.B.A. On Tuesday night, Luka Doncic reached that total and kept right on going to 60 points.

How Luka Doncic and the Mavericks overcame a nine-point deficit ... (CBSSports.com)

Mathematically speaking, the odds of a Knicks victory were north of 99 percent. Historically, the Mavs' hopes were even dimmer. Over the past 20 seasons, teams ...

So Doncic essentially needed to throw the ball off of the rim in a way that his teammates could feasibly rebound. For a missed free throw to be legally rebounded, it needs to hit the rim. As the Knicks learned on Tuesday, holding Doncic off for 47 minutes is no longer enough. Even after he makes the first free throw, with only 4.2 seconds left on the clock, the game is essentially over. He flies in off of Hardaway's miss, makes the putback, and draws the foul in the process. Doncic wins the tip but passes the ball to Hardaway, who misses a 3-pointer. However, the pass is close to enough to the sideline that Dinwiddie can use Doncic as an impromptu screener. The final seconds are ticking away, and with no timeouts, New York knows it can foul Doncic into two free throws rather than allow him to attempt a 3-pointer. Dallas has no timeouts, so Doncic has to get the ball up court quickly. [Christian Wood](/nba/players/2198707/christian-wood/) takes the ball down the court. He passes it to [Tim Hardaway Jr](/nba/players/2067672/tim-hardaway-jr/). He gets the jump-ball call.

60-21-10 triple-double stat line for Mavs' Luka Doncic goes viral (Corvallis Gazette Times)

Luka Doncic's unreal stat line on his latest triple-double went viral after the Dallas superstar scored 60 points and had 21 rebounds and 10 assists.

There’s also a slew of new or rebranded ones announced Tuesday -- Hakeem Olajuwon (defensive player of the year), John Havlicek (sixth man), Wilt Chamberlain (rookie), and George Mikan (most improved). No, this is not a conflict for Jordan even though he owns the Charlotte Hornets. A new trophy this year is the Clutch Player of the Year, named for “Mr. "Everybody is still in shock," coach Jason Kidd said after the game. It doesn’t seem right that David Stern — the league’s commissioner for 30 years, Silver’s predecessor and mentor and one of the people who basically helped saved the league from financial peril in the 1980’s — doesn’t have a trophy bearing his name. Russell died earlier this year.

What is the ceiling for Luka Doncic? | NBA.com (NBA.com)

On Sunday, the Dallas Mavericks unveiled a statue dedicated to Dirk Nowitzki, honoring the legacy of the franchise's greatest player.

A key to LeBron’s rise up the scoring charts has been his unmatched consistency as he has averaged at least 25 points per game in every season of his career following his rookie year. While Westbrook is just three triple-doubles shy of reaching the 200 plateau, Doncic is on pace to challenge Westbrook’s mark as the two players have the highest triple-double percentages of all time. With 197 triple-doubles in 1,052 games played, Westbrook has recorded a triple-double in 18.7% of his total games played. Luka isn’t even halfway into his first decade in the NBA, but if his start is an indication of his future, then the rest of the NBA is in trouble. Again, he has a long way to go to match LeBron’s consistency, but the foundation is in place. When looking at the [career scoring average leaderboard](https://www.nba.com/stats/alltime-leaders?PerMode=PerGame), there is a minimum of 400 games placed on the field, thus excluding Doncic from the rankings. The question that will follow is how high LeBron will push the mark for others to chase for years to come. What makes the five players on the list above so impressive is that they maintained that level of excellence for well over a decade in the league. Following Tuesday’s games, LeBron needs 602 points to pass the Captain as the top scorer in NBA history. Doncic posted only the fourth triple-double in league history with at least 50 points and 20 rebounds, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor. How many more of Dirk’s Mavericks records will Luka break over the course of his career? The phrase “since Wilt Chamberlain” is a common one for any discussion surrounding gaudy NBA statistical performances.
