That is why as soon as he was made the interim chief, the first thing he did was to call his family to inform them that they would have to put up with the interference as they would be accompanied by security personnel wherever they went. He knew that his daughter needed time to cope up and he dealt with the issue with a lot of empathy and delicacy. Yeah, the way I viewed it at the time was I think he's being honest — I don't think there's any love in the traditional sense for Kara. Maddy eventually confronts Adam over it, and asks whether he's still in love with her, which he denies, but it feels like there's a level of ambiguity in the air. And that's what I think makes him a hero: not because he just naturally always gets it right, it's more that he's able to recognise where he's got it wrong, and then do the right thing at his own expense.
