The Traitors finale review – so thrilling your heart won't stop ... (The Guardian)

The pay-off of this gloriously twisted gameshow has such high stress, hellish back-stabs and helicopter dives that everyone ends up crying … even Claudia ...

Despite Claudia’s best efforts to crank up the drama, Kieran is ready to fall on his sword – as Hannah says to him at one point: “You look like you’re about to explode with guilt.” But whether you want the Traitors to win or you’re, as they say, 100% Faithful, this has been the reality TV highlight of the year. The mission, a heart-pounding treasure hunt around a Scottish loch (of course), involves two people jumping out of a helicopter, a hurtling speedboat, riddles, digging in sand and someone shouting into a tiny megaphone. He rallied (just) while the others banished Maddy, but within 10 minutes of the final episode his precarious position is clearly weighing on his mind. Of course, the final episode ramps up the heat even further. As the old saying goes: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

The Traitors winners revealed as jaw-dropping finale sees Wilf ... (Irish Mirror)

The Traitors aired its gripping finale on Thursday night, as three Faithfuls competed against the two remaining Traitors to win the prize fund.

With minutes left and just as they came close to the end, Hannah and Aaron declared Wilf could be a Traitor and they were proven right - as a vote led to a banishment. Of course Faithfuls Hannah, Aaron and Meryl knew full well that there was at least one Traitor left on the show, given Andrea had been murdered the day before - and Maddy had been banished, but was a Faithful. It was up to the three remaining Faithfuls to work out how many Traitors were left, and who they were - otherwise if there were any left at the end of the game, they would get the prize money

Theo Mayne, one of the contestants on the hit BBC reality show The Traitors, explains what life was like as he tried to stay in the game. Host Claudia Winkleman was "invested" in the game and the players, he adds. "The day I was banished and the cameras stopped rolling, she gave me a tight hold and said, 'it's alright, it'll be OK' and I think I needed someone like that. "I don't think I could have been a traitor from the start, but I think if I was given an ultimatum I would have said yes," admits Theo. "Everyone trusted me at that point, so I'd like to be recruited, but I'm a nosy person so I'd have seen who the other traitors were and be like, 'Oh, it's you!'" "I was savage. "I was paranoid every moment of the day," the Leeds-born cheerleading coach says.

The Traitors' Best Moments So Far: The Drama! The Deception! The ... (Den of Geek US)

Ahead of tonight's final of The Traitors we look at what has made this sleeper hit must-watch TV.

Someone else who kept a secret from the group (like Alex and Tom) was Maddy. Her eyes were constantly misty, she was incredibly quick to throw Nicky under the bus (who was a strange choice as an initial target) and we all knew she wouldn’t last long. This lasted until episode four, when Alex was picked by The Traitors to go ‘on trial’ (which basically meant she was one of three who could be murdered that night), Tom freaked out and decided to tell everyone they were a couple and he knew she was a Faithful. The fallout was one of the funniest scenes on TV this year – there were tears, stormouts and a very confused and upset BMX rider (Matt) who thought him and Alex had made their own romantic connection. They had the opportunity to try and find and vote out the Traitors at the nightly roundtables. The first couple of episodes had a slow start as a few obvious Faithfuls were offed from the roundtable just because the loudest voices were suspicious of them for being quiet (or in some cases the Traitors did some great deflection work).

Despite Will swearing he was a Faithful, the damage was done. The banished's final words alerted Aaron, Hannah and Meryl, who immediately turned against Will once they realised the game wasn't over. Aaron and Hannah managed to crack the code, winning the keys for the team. It was time for one more banishment as the two Traitors Will and Kieran attempted to save themselves by forging last-minute coalitions. Will lied to bring Meryl, Hannah and Aaron on his side, taking advantage of their suspicions about Kieran. But it wouldn't be The Traitors if the mission were this simple.

TREACHEROUS gameshow The Traitors had one of reality TV's most dramatic ever finales last night – capping off a series that became a cult favourit.

There’s a fan page right now of me in trousers.” I literally dropped to the floor when Wilf told us he was a traitor. It was really emotional.” He says: “I always said if I was going to do the Christmas special it had to be with someone good so I am happy about this. The actress explained: “One gentleman came in and said, ‘Can I have some Ibuprofen?” and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t, I’m not a real chemist.’ He said with a laugh: “I’ve had a lot of love and a lot of mums offering hugs up. She said: “I work at a call centre as a customer service agent and I really want to break into the television and journalism industry in presenting. But he stuck to his promise and gave his prize money to his mum for the deposit on a house. She admitted: “I desperately wanted to be a traitor and I was so annoyed when I wasn’t one. “I felt complete shock like, ‘How did you lie to me and Hannah for so long?’ But it’s a game and he was playing the game so well.” Aaron added: “At the end of the day it is a game. I did not believe it.

The Faithful win The Traitors - Aaron, Hannah and Meryl reveal how ... (BBC News)

After four weeks of game play, suspicion, and teamwork Aaron, Hannah and Meryl successfully banished all the Traitors to take home the grand prize.

I was myself the whole way through and watching it back I’m proud that I was truly me the whole time. All the things that we’ve done have been once-in-a-lifetime moments and I got to experience all of that in the safety and organisation of this amazing production. I could have the exact same challenge and the exact same experience as everyone else. When I was at The Traitors I realised how independent I was and how much I can actually do on my own without relying on other people because it was all down to me. I never in a million years thought I was going to win the show. I never went in there to win the show. I was in shock with it all. I didn’t really know how to feel at that point in time, but I think you can see by my reactions on the show, I was just overwhelmed. I was genuinely in shock. It’s an opportunity many people will never have, and I feel so lucky and happy and just completely grateful to the whole process. She was always so fun to be around and always spurred us on to do the best that we possibly could. I wasn’t nervous, I was asking them to go higher!

After a weeks of tension, the series finale of The Traitors aired on BBC One last night, revealing the winners and who was actually a traitor.

This meant Aaron, Hannah and Meryl were crowned the winners of the show. The three traitors were picked at the beginning of the series by Claudia, and had to keep their identity a secret from the rest of the group, aka the faithfuls. And whilst we're gutted one of our favourite shows of the year has come to an end, the viewers (us included) could not be more happy with the outcome of the series finale.

The dark reason we all loved The Traitors (The Independent)

We like to peer through the bars at the reality TV zoo of our own species, because what we find simultaneously attracts and repels us.

We look at the good and bad sides of human behaviour and we see ourselves. At some level, we are all (or all have the potential to be) traitors. It makes perfect sense to me, only I’d go one step further and say that what I think makes us so drawn to TV programmes like The Traitors is empathy. [We can co-opt the joy and tension](https://www.scoopwhoop.com/entertainment/psychology-behind-why-people-love-watching-reality-shows/), without experiencing risk: to our hearts or to our reputations. Just look at what she did in the very first episode! Got rid of the guys who tried to play humble; who pretended they wouldn’t have a hope in hell of winning – which they didn’t, because Winkles ordered them to leave. Get in the bin, she was saying. We are horrified, we are thrilled, we are captivated, we are repulsed, we are aroused. Not so with The Traitors. So, then, The Traitors. We like to peer through the bars at the reality TV zoo of our own species, because what we find there simultaneously attracts and repels us. The two questions are inextricably linked, in my opinion.

BBC's The Traitors, a psychological reality show presented by Claudia Winkleman, filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, has gripped the nation.

The castle and estate properties have been extensively renovated too. In 1937, the estate was broken up and sold. The 1st Duke of Sutherland bought Ardross in the late 1700s, and built a hunting lodge. Matheson purchased Ardross, amounting to 60,000 acres, for £90,000, and he set about developing the estate with the intention of attracting tenants to agricultural tenancies. The castle is not open to the public but it is available for exclusive hire, for both corporate and private clients. Watching the players come to their conclusions about who is a Traitor is pure drama, and some people are so good at influencing the group even if their convictions are totally off!'
