It was a moment that Lionel Messi had imagined all his life, and he has long had pictures of it in his head, but they just might not have looked much like this. Vialli was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017, but after being treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital, he announced in April 2020 that he had been given the all-clear. Concerns are growing for the health of Gianluca Vialli after members of his family travelled to visit him in a London hospital, according to Italian media reports.

Messages have come pouring in for him since the news broke, including plenty of messages from those associated with Chelsea. Vialli played out the majority of his career in Italy, playing for the likes of Cremonese, Sampdoria and Juventus before moving to Chelsea in 1996. The former Italy striker has already undergone two courses of chemotherapy for the tumour that was discovered in 2017. However, it was reported that in December 2021, the pancreatic cancer had returned.
