The players saved this World Cup, but soccer deserves so much better (The Washington Post)

There's an old saying in sports that is usually directed at the Olympics: “Only the athletes save the games.” It's an accurate shot at the never-ending ...

And what if a team has to play 140 minutes — or more — in the round of 16, the quarterfinals or the semifinals? [should the United States be hosting in four years](https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/06/16/2026-world-cup-host-cities/?itid=lk_inline_manual_31) with Mexico and Canada? Now it’s up to the rest of us to do something about the horrible humans who run this wonderful sport. Imagine the drama Sunday if Mbappé or Messi — or one of their teammates — had scored in the 140th minute to win the championship. If someone had scored the winning goal in super extra time, it would have been one of the most memorable moments in sports history. That’s not fair to the athletes or to fans. It’s one thing to send a team to compete in places such as Qatar, Russia and China, but why should such a high-ranking member of the government endorse sportswashing by attending? You don’t decide Game 7 of the World Series with a home run derby, the Super Bowl with a field goal kicking contest or a basketball title with a three-point contest. They will be right, but they will miss the point. It is an oil-rich country and clearly saw sportswashing as a way to distract the world from its never-ending list of human rights violations. The “One Love” program was launched in 2020 by the Dutch soccer federation to protest discrimination in all of its forms. The Europeans backed down, and Qatar and FIFA got their way.

Top 10 Goals of FIFA World Cup 2022 (Khel Now)

The 2022 FIFA World Cup comes to an end Argentina and France. Here are the top ten goals of the tournament.

He also provided the assist for the third goal in what was a thriller of a match between these two. Cameroon was out of the game until he arrived with this moment of brilliance to make a comeback and score the second goal. Though it was a consolation for the Koreans in the end, it was a goal to remember for the ages. Luis Chavez’s bullet free-kick was the most powerfully struck goal of the World Cup group stage at a speed of 75 mph and is considered by many to be one of the goals of the tournament. He took a touch from Angel Di Maria’s pass across the face of the area and drove a low shot from 25 meters (yards) into the bottom corner in the 64th minute to beat the ever-reliant Guillermo Ochoa and give the Albiceleste the all-important lead. Aboubakar evaded the off-side trap to score the most outrageous chip-scoop goal of the World Cup against Serbia. Argentina was on the edge of the knife as they had to break the deadlock in order to progress to the knockouts. Neymar’s brilliance came in vain as Brazil were thrashed out by the Kockasti after a heartbreaking loss in the tiebreaker. With Brazil having been in cruise control throughout the entirety of the second half, naturally, South Korea had chances to move up the pitch in search of a consolation having found themselves 4-0 down at half-time. Saudi Arabia scored one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history with their 2-1 win over Argentina, considered by many to be a tournament favourite. A brilliant team goal by Brazil saw Richarlison starting the attack himself, by keeping the ball under pressure and Thiago Silva threading an extravagant pass to split the Korean defence open. Let’s have a look at the top 10 goals of FIFA World Cup 2022 so far:

FIFA might finally have bitten off more than they can chew with Club ... (Football365.com)

FIFA have announced a 32-team Club World Cup from 2025, but dealing with the biggest clubs will be very different to already craven national associations.

And while the neutral viewers can and do take interest in World Cup matches between less than powerful nations, it seems unlikely that they will offer the same to the club game. But the biggest clubs will be a very different beast to those supine national associations who’ve handed FIFA’s executive what it’s wanted for decades, and if FIFA do seriously believe that they can just utilise these clubs to make themselves another massive profit, well, they clearly haven’t been paying enough attention to how those clubs carry themselves. This brings us onto perhaps the most important question of all that FIFA will have to answer: how do they sell this to viewers or supporters? Furthermore, from a political angle they can expect precious little assistance from UEFA, who may well see all of this as this FIFA barging in on territory that has been held by the Champions League for decades, and some of whose federations are still spitting feathers over Qatar 2022. Or are the Europa League and Europa Conference League finalists roped in as well? The champions of each FIFA confederation are immediately qualified for the tournament, plus one team from the host nation, playing in a staggered knockout competition in which the European and South American teams sit out the opening rounds.

What Gianni Infantino's 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Could Look Like (Forbes)

FIFA boss Gianni Infantino has mentioned FIFA's plans for the Club World Cup, which unsurprisingly involves making everything bigger.

Premier League sides might have fans from all around the world, but how many Tottenham Hotspur fans will be waking up in the middle of the night to watch Manchester City take on Boca Juniors? The Club World Cup will be none of those things. Transfermarkt.com values the Moroccan side at $255 million, around a quarter of the value of France’s squad. If FIFA gets its way, the first 32-team Club World Cup is to take place in 2025, with the USA being mooted as a possible host. It attracts people who ordinarily wouldn’t watch a soccer match if the other TV channels were showing paint drying. But FIFA now wants to
