In all, 1,200 production workers at the West Sussex plant are to receive a salary boost of 10% and a one-off payment of £2,000 from January, avoiding the prospect of industrial action. Agreement was reached between the two sides after union members had voted to take industrial action if a pay rise in line with the cost of living was not forthcoming. Workers at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' Goodwood factory are to receive a pay award worth up to 17.6% after negotiations between the luxury automaker and Unite the union.

The advanced payment will be made during the week of December 19, ahead of the next payment on December 30 as social welfare payment schedules From January 2023, the maximum rate of the Disability Allowance and Blind Pension will also increase by €12 with proportional increases for people on reduced rates of payment. The current maximum weekly payment available on Disability Allowance and the Blind Pension is €208, but this will rise to €220 in the New Year when most social welfare payments [Heather Humphreys](https://www.thesun.ie/who/heather-humphreys/) has signed in new regulations to allow an increase to the earnings disregarded in the means test for both the Disability Allowance and Blind Pension. Weekly earnings of up to €165 will now be disregarded for recipients of the payments, an increase of €25 from the previous limit of €140.

The payment increases come as the Christmas 'double payments' are set to be paid from December 19.

The income received from agri-environmental schemes disregarded in the means test for Farm Assist will increase from €2,540 to €5,000. The weekly income threshold for the higher rate of employer’s PRSI will increase from €410 to €441 to ensure that there is no incentive to reduce the working hours for a full-time employee on the increased minimum wage. The weekly rate for a qualified child under 12 will also increase by €2 from €40 to €42, while those over the age of 12 will increase by €2 from €48 to €50. People on The Community Employment (CE), Tús and Rural Social Scheme top up payment will get an increase of €5 from €22.50 to €27.50. For example, those under 25 that are receiving a decreased payment of Jobseeker's Allowance will receive the full €12 increase in the new year. Thousands of people in receipt of social welfare are expected to begin receiving up to €624 in social welfare payment boosts from January 2023.

A new rule change means that thousands more people will now be eligible to avail of Disability Allowance and the Blind Pension.

The payment is made up of a personal rate for you and extra amounts for a qualified adult and any child dependants (see 'Rates' below). To qualify for the Pension you must supply an eye test from an opthalmic surgeon to verify your visual impairment. The payment is made by the Department of Social Protection.
