Of her nickname, she says: “It was one of my dad’s mates who used to play in the bar with us. I honestly thought I was going to miss the board.

Willie O'Connor storms past Beau Greaves to advance to second ... (Irish Mirror)

Ireland's Willie o'Connor is through to the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off young English star Beau Greaves.

"She had her chances, I had chances before that. However, misses at double 16 and double eight cost Greaves and ultimately rubberstamped the victory for O'Connor as he returned to the oche and made his last dart - and his second match dart - count as he rattled home the double eight to ensure a straight-sets victory. And O'Connor made reference to the big build up that came ahead of the game as the media hyped up his clash with the promising young Briton. With 147 left on the board and a 2-0 lead on legs in the third set, O'Connor did leave Greaves - who had 44 left to clear - a slight chance as his own efforts went slightly astray. Greaves took a 1-0 lead in the second set as a brilliant 122 finish got her off and running, but O'Connor immediately looked to foil her and he stayed locked in as he averaged 95 to double his advantage on sets. And O'Connor made her pay as he stepped up with 40 on the board; it took all three darts, however, as he first hit 20 and then hit 10 to leave double five for the set, a dart which he composed himself to land.
