Met Eireann gives update on weekend forecast (Dublin Live)

The weekend will get off to a cold start after a week of bitter temperatures and icy conditions.

Saturday: "Outbreaks of mostly rain and sleet will continue on Saturday morning, but will generally become confined to coastal counties in the afternoon as good sunny spells develop. While it will become milder everywhere, afternoon highs will range from 4 to 8 degrees in the north to 10 to 13 degrees further south as moderate to fresh southeasterly winds veer southerly and temperatures continue to rise in northern parts through the evening. Run a hot hairdryer up and down the length of frozen pipes to slowly thaw out the ice. Showery outbreaks of rain and sleet will continue in the west. Carlow Weather revealed the varying temperatures across Dublin and it's outskirts last night, tweeting: "A very icy morning for most but the temperature can vary a lot even in small distances. Later in the night, outbreaks of rain and sleet will become more widespread with some turning to snow, especially over higher ground." "Showery outbreaks of rain and sleet will continue in the west. The Sunday will bring rain with some sleet and snow on higher ground. However, it will nonetheless work as a great asset for the morning commute, particularly for those travelling alone to work. Otherwise it will be a largely dry and sunny morning, with showers developing in the northwest.

Blind dog dumped in freezing Dublin sea rescued by fisherman (Q102)

The dog is now fighting for his life after he was found in Balbriggan Harbour in Dublin by a fisherman.

We believe he was thrown off the edge and left to drown, to die alone, terrified and confused on one of the coldest days of the year." He pulled this little dog's freezing body onto his boat and dried him off. The frightened animal was near to death when he was found but still swimming and fighting for his life. Just imagine him being blind, his whole world already a scary place to be. Drowning unwanted animals used to be a thing of the past, but it's happening a lot now. Investigations point to him being dumped in the freezing waters of the harbour, another unwanted soul.

Dublin Airport staff release Christmas single in aid of three charities (Dublin Live)

Fire safety defects detected in up to 500 Dublin apartments (The Irish Times)

Inadequate fire prevention measures throughout social and private apartments on former Fatima Mansions estate in Dublin.

The 39 apartments were part of a distressed property portfolio acquired by Kennedy Wilson in 2014. “Remedial works are ongoing at the moment in terms of remedying these defects,” he said. The council bought the block from Kennedy Wilson in lieu of social housing provision in the US real estate firm’s premium apartment schemes at Capital Dock and Clancy Quay.

Ryan Dowling (20) of Poppintree Crescent, Ballymun, Dublin, pleaded guilty to one count of violent disorder at South William Street, Dublin 2, on June 17th, ...

The probation report also said that Dowling was at a high risk of reoffending. The fight continued with kicks and punches being thrown by the group of men. The court heard that the men had fled towards the Drury Street area when the gardai arrived. The woman was approached by a group of four males, one of whom was Dowling. The group of men then picked up furniture and threw it at two members of staff. The group began to harass her, with one of the four blowing cannabis smoke in her face.
