A woman has died and two other people have been seriously injured after a car collided with a number of pedestrians at Dromanallig in Ballingeary, Co Cork, ...

The driver of the car, a local man in his 40s, and his passenger were not injured but were also treated for shock. The group met with mourners from the funeral of another local man, Seamus Lucey, which had also taken place earlier in the day. Ms Twomey, who was from a well-known local family, had moved to Dublin several years ago where she lived in the Finglas area.

She comes from a large family who are well known in the area and heavily involved in local GAA. Cork in the early hours of this morning Tuesday 13th December 2022 at approximately 1.10am.

Her sister Caitriona (52) sustained a broken leg and arm in the collision and her mother Eibhlis was treated for shock at the scene. "The whole area is in shock at what has happened. An ambulance crew based in Skibbereen were in Ballingeary at the time attending to a minor incident and arrived on the scene within minutes. The main street in Ballingeary was closed for most of the day to enable a technical examination of the scene by Garda forensic collision investigators and the vehicle involved in the accident was also examined. Her body was taken to Cork University Hospital for postmortem. She had recently graduated from UCD where she was studying physiotherapy.
