Shane MacGowan, famous for singing the iconic Christmas song Fairytale of New York, has suffered with a number of health issues recently.

This led to MacGowan being sober “for the first time in years”. Shane MacGown has also suffered with substance abuse, as well as being a heavy drinker being renowned for performing while intoxicated. The singer suffered a dangerous fall last year as he broke his knee and tore ligaments in the joint.

The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan, best known as the singer of Christmas favourite "Fairytale of New York", has been admitted to hospital, his wife said.

But when the ballad of a skid-row romance was released in 1987, it failed to make it to Christmas number one in the UK charts, missing out to the Pet Shops Boys "Always on My Mind". MacGowan, who rose to fame in the 1980s as the battered and drawling face of The Pogues, was previously admitted to hospital in 2015 after breaking his pelvis that left him using a wheelchair.
