In a later statement on the two occasions she stopped the interview to speak to advisers, Ms Black said: “I met with representatives of the British Legion this morning before going out to take part in a dignified ceremony to extend my solidarity on this Armistice Day as people gathered to reflect on the tragic suffering and human cost of conflict. “It was a time to reflect on the tragedies of war and I was honoured to be there, and it did feel like a fitting ceremony,” she said. “On this the anniversary of the guns falling silent in the First World War, we reflect on the cost of that conflict and indeed the human cost of all conflict.”
