Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has revealed how Miguel Almiron reacted to Jack Grealish's comments earlier this year.
[Wilson has reportedly been included in Gareth Southgate’s 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup.](https://www.football365.com/news/england-brighton-duo-surprise-inclusions-55-man-squad-newcastle-striker-wilson-welbeck-dunk) When asked if the Paraguayan was “fuming with what happened” with Grealish, Wilson said: “Well, obviously that comment was made and I didn’t even realise that comment had been made until recently, and I was like ‘what has been said?’ Almiron – who has six goals in as many games – has remained silent on the subject. Finally proving his worth to the Geordie faithful, the baby-faced 28-year-old has scored seven Premier League goals this term. Since his jibe at Almiron, the 27-year-old has scored one goal and provided no assists in 14 matches, meanwhile, the Paraguayan winger has been on top form. During Manchester City’s Premier League title parade, Grealish was a bit tipsy and decided to take the p*ss out of one of his teammates by saying they “played like Almiron” in their title-clinching victory against Aston Villa.
Callum Wilson insists he was 'oblivious' to Manchester City star Jack Grealish's jibe about his Newcastle United team-mate Miguel Almiron until recently.
He's starting to do that which is credit to his hard work, and also the manager getting the best out of him, and it's helping us as a team." I get an assist for it, but to be honest I didn't do a lot. He's finding the balance of shooting at the right time, still not passing 100% at the right time to my disappointment. [The Magpies'](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/newcastle-united-fc) number nine could not hide his delight at his team-mate's stunning form, and believes 'confidence' is the key to the former MLS star's newfound killer instinct. "His English is quite good, but I can imagine it would have been a little bit frustrating for him to hear that about himself. [Wilson](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/callum-wilson) added: "He's doing a madness to be fair to him, and I'm so happy for him. [told the BBC's Footballer's Football Podcast](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0dcdr2q) : "Obviously that comment was made, and I actually didn't even realise the comment had been made until recently. "But now, he's just got that confidence of taking shots on wherever. "I was just oblivious to it really. But he hasn't said anything to me. The 28-year-old's work rate on Tyneside has never been in doubt, but the Paraguay international has often frustrated with his end product. It's to his credit really, he's doing really well."
'Playing like Almiron' was deemed an insult when Jack Grealish slurred the phrase back in May during Manchester City's title celebrations.
"But he's doing well and you give the ball to him and you get an assist. Still not passing 100% at the right time, to my disappointment, you know what you're like as a striker you like [shouts] Miggy! He just shrugged his shoulders.“I think internally he probably used it as motivation and it's driven him but he hasn’t said anything to me.
