Spotlight on Rishi Sunak's family as they prepare to enter No 10 (The Guardian)

His wife, Akshata Murty, is the daughter of a billionaire; their garden parties are one of the hottest tickets in their home town.

Between 2018 and 2019 he served as parliamentary undersecretary of state for local government, before entering cabinet in 2019 as chief secretary to the Treasury. These include a Grade II-listed manor house in the village of Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton, in his Richmond constituency, which was bought for £1.5m in 2015; and a five-bedroom townhouse in South Kensington, London, which records show was last sold for £4.5m in 2010. Murty runs her own fashion label, Akshata Designs, and is also the director of a venture capital firm founded by her father in 2010. He was re-elected in 2019 with a majority of 27,210. Their two children, Krishna and Anoushka, appeared with Sunak on the campaign trail in the leadership contest against Liz Truss during the summer. Sunak was born in Southampton in 1980 to Indian parents who had moved to the UK from east Africa.

Former chancellor and wife Akshata Murty moved out of Number 11 to their home in Kensington six months ago.

In August Mr Sunak told the Sunday Times: “I’m incredibly tidy, she’s very messy. Mr Sunak said at the time: “The decision was nothing to do with what had happened. She is a total nightmare, clothes everywhere…and shoes, oh God shoes.” His new job will severely restrict his ability to do that, but he will be able to spend weekends at Chequers with his family, as well as spending time at their London home and their constituency home in North Yorkshire.
