We are trying to commercialise the Women’s World Cup for the first time on its own.” In the meantime, soccer must grow accustomed to hakas and didgeridoos. But getting Down Under and hopping between the three Australian cities, for a grand total of 8,300km in 11 days is hardly an environmentally friendly never mind player- or fan-accommodating odyssey. “It is something we have to face. pushing us to do more for equality and at the same time we are not going to accept these offers. The Perth Oval takes 20,500, and Suncorp in Brisbane has a capacity of 52,500. “There will be a lot of lobbying tonight and tomorrow.” Countries qualified months ago so they had more time to put a schedule in place,” Pauw said. We need to ask who needs games at what moment and fit them in. Access the ticket portal All I can say is we will give every team a game.” The game will explode [in Ireland].

2023 Women's World Cup Draw: U.S. Will Face Netherlands ... (The New York Times)

The world's best soccer teams learned their opponents for next year's tournament in Australia and New Zealand, the first with a 32-team field.

And that might not be the end of the debutantes. England, the best team in Europe at the moment and unbeaten in its last 24 games, and Canada, which defeated the United States on its way to the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, will be waiting. Each will be making its ninth appearance in the tournament, which was first contested in 1991. Australia and New Zealand already knew their positions before arriving at Aotea Center in Auckland for the draw. But the expanded field means so many new faces — as much as a quarter of the field could be playing in its first World Cup — that the favorites should experience little trouble in the group stage. England is out next: It goes into Group D, which will be in Australia. The 2023 World Cup will be the first since FIFA, world soccer’s governing body, expanded the field to 32 teams. Should they finish in the top two in the group — an almost certain outcome — only then will they venture to Australia for the round of 16. The stakes are still high, though, especially for a group like the one that includes the United States and the Netherlands, two likely title contenders. 3 and the runner-up at last summer’s European Championship, will face Morocco, Colombia and South Korea. The Americans also will see a geographic advantage in their New Zealand-based group.

We’ve proven we can beat the best - we beat the best recently.” “I think we can take on the world,” said Ian Wright, who was in attendance to help with the official business of ball-drawing. Both sides are in Group E, which also features newcomers Vietnam and another playoff winner – either Portugal, Thailand or Cameroon. England will play the winners of Playoff B, which pits Chile against either Senegal or Haiti.

Germany have qualified for all eight editions of the Women's World Cup and have topped their group in every appearance. When they take the field in Melbourne, they will make history as the first Arab nation to compete in the tournament. Group H is well poised for them to make another run into the elimination rounds, with a key game against South Korea in their way. The Italians topped their group in 2019 and will be looking to replicate that success. The Olympic silver medallists will be hard to match in this group with their experience in major competitions. While it is hard to imagine Argentina making it out of the group, a win would mark continued growth and success for this team. With the weight of expectation on their shoulders, the USA may well sink rather than swim; yet in a group that should be navigable, there is still the chance to tread water. Having won Euro 2022, England have established themselves as one of the box office teams in the women's game and are arguably the biggest threat to the USA's hopes of achieving a World Cup "three-peat." With a second round clash against the winners of Group E -- likely to be the U.S. are so far ahead of the rest in terms of ranking and women's football development. Only six places separate the two sides in the world rankings and this closeness is replicated on the pitch. Is it a little bit of a cop out to put the opening game as the must watch one?
