BONO has revealed the identity of his secret half-brother who he thought was his cousin growing up.The U2 star, 62, first found out about his sibling.
"And I'm so grateful. He said: "But I would say if you ask me seriously, friendship can outpace romantic love, sometimes. "I love Scott and his mother Barbara. "But it’s actually opera I am talking about. "So I think that was part of the problem I was picking up as a kid." That is why he was attracted to the opera, because he was one, and I suppose he had the voice and this is how he gave it to me.
The shock disclosure comes four months after the U2 frontman first revealed he had a sibling, whose parentage had been kept a family secret for decades.
In his new memoir, Bono has named his second brother as Government banking adviser Scott Rankin.
She died in 1974 when Bono was 14. “Our extended family have known for some time and we agreed that it made no sense to keep this hidden any longer. I love Scott and his mother Barbara.” Bono writes that the family “all knew that my father and my auntie Barbara had been close” but Iris and Jack were sister and brother so it was “not that unusual for their spouses to be”. The affair took place when Iris was still alive but she never knew about it.
