Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for heavy rainfall for several counties for tonight and tomorrow.

Wednesday morning will be wet in many areas, the rain is due to ease for a time before another band of rain arrives from the south later in the day bringing a further risk of flooding. A Status Yellow warning for rain for Carlow; Kilkenny; and Tipperary will be in place for 24 hours from 10:00p.m today. Meanwhile, today’s forecast is for mainly dry and sunny conditions for many areas, apart from the southwest where the cloud will bring rain and drizzle which will become more persistent in the afternoon.

Laois is among the counties facing a 24 hour rain deluge which has caused Met Eireann to issue Orange and Yellow weather warnings.

There'll be widespread showers or longer spells of rain on Friday with a clearance from the south in the evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees with moderate to fresh southeast to east winds. Outbreaks of rain in the south early on Thursday night will extend northwards overnight. On Wednesday night the rain will clear northeastwards and it'll be largely dry for a time. Further rain will move into the south and southwest later in the afternoon though and will move up across the country through the evening and early night. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees generally, but milder in the south and southwest.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Cork and Kerry. The alert was issued this evening and is in effect until midnight.

There'll be widespread showers or longer spells of rain on Friday with a clearance from the south in the evening. Many places will be dry on Thursday with sunny spells, cloudier weather in the south will rain and drizzle over southern counties. Today will be a largely dry and sunny day for much of the country, it will be cloudier in the southwest with occasional rain or drizzle there. It'll be heaviest and most persistent in the south and southwest with localised flooding possible there again. “There will be a break with the rain on Wednesday afternoon and it will break for a little bit, it will be drier for a short time but it will be short-lived. "Heavy rain on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Wednesday night with the possibility of thundery downpours will lead to localised flooding," the forecaster said.

Drier conditions with clear spells and isolated showers will push into the south early, extending to all areas later. Thursday morning will be largely dry and partly cloudy with a few showers about mostly in southern coastal counties. Much of Ulster will stay dry.

Met Eireann have updated the Status Yellow weather warning in place across Cork, all of Munster and other counties. The thunderstorm warning comes after a Status Orange rain warning - later downgraded to Yellow this afternoon - battered the county last night. A Yellow Thunderstorm warning issued this evening will see "intense storms" across the county.
