Emmerdale 50th anniversary review: ITV soap eyes future in bold ... (Radio Times)

The Emmerdale 50th anniversary special has aired, setting up Storm Week - but more importantly, setting up the future.

[Emmerdale](https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/soaps/emmerdale/) airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub. Props, therefore, to the behind-the-scenes team who have gone above and beyond for Storm Week to make it look as lifelike and terrifying as possible. Emmerdale did well not to focus too much on the past. As for the drama, it genuinely feels like everyone is truly in danger. The warmth of the village community shines through, thus underlining what a terrible event is about to strike. Long-serving Kim Tate (Claire King) majestically rode her horse through the long grasses before we dived headfirst into the action - and what a dramatic episode it was. It's abundantly crucial not just to this particular episode, but to soaps in general. And then, it does. It has tackled everything from harrowing cancer storylines to stalking and teen pregnancy among recent times. It was harmless - Will is clearly #TeamKim. Emmerdale star James Hooton responds to huge Sam Dingle ... (digitalspy.com)

Emmerdale has aired another shock cliffhanger, with Sam Dingle's life now hanging in the balance after a cow stampede.

"Well, it has been the making of me but in a different way. It's a great way to mark this momentous occasion for the show." "It's great to celebrate this mega milestone and what a way to do it. "They covered all angles and it was a joy to shoot. "Yes, it's a great landmark for the show. "It looked great and it was really interesting to film that stuff. The cow-cam was on a cow head they had specially designed and made for a specific shot with a camera on the back. "There's quite a good rural element still on the show. "The camera stayed in that fixed position and when we'd shot all of our angles running, they sent out the cows. "When I was told this was happening, obviously you don't know what the outcome is going to be of a story such as this. "Costume developed a sling I put over my shoulder, I had a little bit sticking out and part of the spike sticks into that. It was interesting, as the costume department went all-out to try and find the best way of dealing with this spike scenario.

On taking souvenirs from the set, she shared: "I've asked for the plaque that was removed from St Mary's Church where it says Harriet Finch was the vicar.
