The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself is written by Joe Barton and executive produced by Barton, Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish, Will Tennant, Phil Robertson and Colm McCarthy, who directed the first four episodes. As the show makes its premiere just in time for Halloween, Murphy is gearing up for the release of her sixth solo album, a collaborative effort with German producer DJ Koze. The show is produced by Adrian Sturges and Steve Clark-Hall and boasts an original score from BritPop group The show follows Nathan, as he encounters the boundaries between ‘good’ and ‘bad,’ alongside the mischief-inclined Annalise and charismatic Gabriel. "It's difficult and we had, like, 100 different versions of [the first episode]. We wrote about 20 different versions of a prologue and epilogue, which we didn't end up using... So it was exciting – I had to get my head back into the world very quickly." "I wrote the screenplay but we couldn't get it made – as most films don't get made," Barton explained.
